American mediator Gen. Anthony Zinni, who met with Yasser Arafat yesterday, said about him, "I have never encountered such lack of trustworthiness in my life."
He said it was a "waste of time to try to reach a serious agreement with Arafat," and will concentrate on talking with other top figures in the PA - probably a reference to Muhammad Dahlan, Jibril Rajoub, and others.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon breakfasted today with the European Union's Javier Solana, expressing his satisfaction with the EU's call for the dismantling of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
The EU's statement of yesterday also called upon Israel to freeze settlement activity in Judea and Samaria. Sharon said that Israel is anxious to fulfill another EU request by easing some restrictions upon the Palestinian population, but "the unceasing terrorism makes this difficult."
Iran plotting with Hamas to replace Arafat regime
How is this evidence? If Iran and Hamas are working together to replace Arafat, then I would bet (I hope anyway) that the US government knows this. And if the US government knows it... then perhaps it IS time to start negotiating with the others.
Doc
The assumption here is that the mission is to broker a deal between Sharon and Arafat. More than one commentator is speculating that the mission is: to get Arafat into the old folks home and deal with someone else. IF that is the case, Zinni COULD have said this under "deniability" just to MOVE THE MISSION ALONG.
IMO Hamas and Hezbollah are our enemies in the war on terror, aided and sheltered by Arafat and the PA. But recognizing this, and acknowledging General Zinni might just be informing Yasser of this, by the standards of this thread makes one un-American.
You got it right. But this thread will keep moving on.
Oh, excuse me, but when Jim told you that "antisemitism isn't wanted here" and then banned you, that does create that impression, does it not?
Anyway, I'm not wasting more bandwidth on you. I have sane things to do :).
Of course, it may be that the story is false, which if not verified by other sources becomes more likely as time passes. I don't know what that has to do with the good faith of the poster. Do you?
I specifically didn't refer to you, because I'm really not familiar with your posts and you haven't revealed any agenda to me on this thread.
But if you cannot agree that some on this thread want this particular quote to be believed, regardless of whether it is accurate, then I'd argue that you aren't being objective, either.
Fenian won't change his mind. He avoids the direct questions by going back to Zinni, Israeli 'disinformation'.
Veronica didn't write the article so lay off of her.
America supports Israel. Fact. That does not make the Americans who support Israel any less supportive of America.
Terrorism is a worldwide problem. Those who do the terrorizing are our enemies. (That goes for Irish terrorists too!) Those who fight against terrorism are our allies.
Disinformation, leak, propaganda, unamaerican, whatever, it was printed. Politics are a very funny business. Nothing ever seems as it is. Whether you believe the story or not is up to you. If someone else believes it, then let them. Sheeeeesh! What a circus!
I wasn't there. But I trust the source, and the quote seem perfectly in context with the type of negotiations (sp?) that are going on. It's time for Yasser to put up or shut up, actually probably too late. It also sounds like Zinni (he's been "criticized" for speaking out before, typical jarhead *hit (LOL-no flames)).
Does my opinion make me unobjective? Do I get assigned to an agenda for it? If I say he could never have said something like that, does that make my objective? I think it makes me stupid.
If he didn't say it, the quote certainly fits the circumstances.
These go on longer than Clintons leaks. I think he said it, if he didn't, he should have. You got post 376. Stop back at 476.
