Yes, I do beleive a couple of Colt Walkers - the magnum of its day - pointed directly at some poor mugger's face would get the bricks flowin'!

You're right about the lubricant! It is essential that anyone getting into black powder should correspond with experienced shooters.

Shenandoah,
I've check a few of your links.
You've done a great job (and public service) with this grouping of links.

So good...I suspect I shall waste a GREAT amount of time perusing them!

). Anyone have any advice? Is the brass frame an OK idea?

If you plan to shoot it very much you should buy the steel frame model. If fired a lot the brass frame will eventually stretch to the point that the cylinder will go out of time, and the gun will then become just an interesting paperweight.

Good advice. The South didn't use brass for aesthetics, although it does make a beautiful gun. If they'd had the resources, their gun frames would most certainly have been hardened steel like the Colts.

You're thinking about the LeMat revolver. I have a Walker and the frustrating thing about is that the loading handle falls down with every shot. You're better off with a pair of 1st Model Dragoons.

1. Thanks for saving me embarassment (with the cognesceti of black-powder!)
concerning the LeMat.
2. So that's why the little locking latch for the loading handle is on those later guns!

I'm gonna check that. I hate having a bathtub full of BP arms.

There was a neat chapter in one of the Foxfire books on making your own BP. Be careful when grinding, LOL.

I love the idea of some punk looking at the Walker Colt pointing at him...That was some gun in its day! (Still is, if your wrists are strong enough)

I love my Enfield with the set trigger. just breathe, and that .50 cal ball goes right where you aimed it.

Thanks for the links.

Fire four rounds then clean the barrel. Repeat and repeat and repeat. You will see that there is less lead stuck in barrel each time. I think they have Christmas sales going on now.

Imagine the astonished looks on inner-city would-be muggers when you pull out your 1851 Navy Colt.

I actually know a guy who discouraged a carjacker with a Walker replica that he hauled out from under his car seat.

He says the guy ran off so fast that he left one of his shoes in the middle of the street.

Based upon your information, I've added a new category to the site, "Black Powder Accessories". If you or anyone else reading this should know of any other sites that would be useful in this category, I'd appreciate your posting it.

Thanks.
