I disagree. He left the country on a spiritual quest, albeit a looney one. He joined up with the Taliban before they were our enemies. He renounced his US citizenship before hostilities broke out. The fact that the paperwork side of it all may not reflect his intent doesn't change the fact that he did not betray his country since he changed countries before the war on terrorism. He didn't fight against the US while posing as an loyal citizen. He is not guity of the same sort of treachery as a real spy or a traitor who covertly uses his access to the US as a means to harm the US
