Please understand, I am not open to changing or exchanging my child. "He was a whole different person!"

My son is a bright, happy, kind, inteligent 6 year old who dotes on his 3 year old sister, fights with his 10 year old sister and loves his momma like no other. I am not just proud, I am more than proud, I'm his Dad.

Just say no.

Not a time to be collecting alleged facts like you are a lawyer going to trial; go with your gut instinct.

I agree, homeschool. If that's impossible, get a tutor to help him.
I can't believe the arrogance of them putting a note in his record.
They should be sued for that. Grrrr.

Why is homeschooling not an option?

If you can afford a private doctor and an attorney, certainly you can afford to homeschool.

Open your eyes and look at the options, dad. Work nights. Have your wife work nights. Downsize your living arrangements.

We homeschool. I have one (of a set of twins) that would surely be in your boys position if they were in school. My little girl, she's a dreamer, and doesn't pay attention if it doesn't interest her. Show her a puzzle and it's done in seconds. She has an ability to see things that it seems many don't and it's natural. I can't drug her.

Get him out of that school. They're just trying to medicate him into submission. You already seem to know that so why do you need any more input? You most likely are not going to win an argument with these people, you can't win with facts in any case, they know what they know and you're just an ignorant idiot parent who should give up his child to the village. So why go through all the grief.

My daughter was placed on medication for ADD a couple of years ago. She did fine in school and is now off the medication. Just be careful and get a second opinion before proceeding.

Homeschooling is always an option. You count the cost.

My sympathies to you, sir! Have you tried talking to your son about what the consequences of his not sitting still, etc. are? Maybe if he knew that the consequences of not behaving are quite dire, he could get himself under control a bit more. My advice is talk, talk, talk to your son about this, and don't give up hope! Remember, "where there is great love, there are always miracles."

Homeschool or private school, PLUS lawsuit. The person is essentially blackmailing you and your wife: Put the kid on the drugs we want him on, or we'll attach a social stigma to him from which he may never recover (throwing him in "special ed" with the nutcases). Sue the pants off them, as individuals, not just as the school board.

First, only a medical doctor who specializes in nuerology can possibly diagnose anything so subltle as ADD. The test alone could take six or seven years when one considers the time that is needed to get a child to an exellent specialist. Also the medical insurance does not like to pay for uneccesary medications. In the interim while you are being cooperative on this front you remove him from that school system and homeschool if possible and/or a private school or some other public school.

Good luck and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am deeply concerned, no scared, of what they want to do to my child.

Well - you SHOULD be.

Exactly what material possesions are you placing before your childs welfare ?

Move, take a job doing something else - but pull that boy OUT of that situation.

You owe him that. 25 years from now it will not matter what kind of car, house, neighborhood you had.

You will forever affect your son's life with this decision.

I know it's hard - I made the same one this year.

I would recommend two things: contact a lawyer and contact Mensa.

I grew up in a generation which teachers recognized higher intellegence levels and gave special considerations to those above the "normal" student. Your son (and you) are gifted-not deficient.

I fear that your school system is not equipped to handle bright students, which is not suprising. Homeschooling is a great alternative, but sometimes not financially feasable. You may want to try private schools, however they may not be equipped either. (mine wasn't)

Just my two cents.

I'm his Dad.

Genesis 33:5
And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who [are] those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.Genesis 48:8-9 And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who [are] these? And Joseph said unto his father, They [are] my sons, whom God hath given me in this [place]. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.

Children are the responsibility of the family, not the Government.

Deuteronomy 4:9-10
Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
