"The Boldness of One Party Increases as They Find the Other Fearful!!"

"April 3, 1943

"...A guy gets in some serious thinking out here...sometimes when I happen to be walking along alone, say for instance at night, I stop and say, "Well, Bob, you are in a heck of a fix. What are you doing here? Do you remember how you laughed at the idea of ever bearing arms...?" It's the fellows that have gone before us who make us willingly bear our burdens. Dear God, spare our lives for we are young and love life so much. This is just a short incident in a fellow's life, I tell myself, and soon it will be behind me and I will have forgotten it, and settle down amongst you again.

"...This is one game I'm going to best. I know. When I played baseball I never wanted to sit on the bench, always wanted to play the whole game. And here, too, I'm going out every time, and while I'm playing this game, I'm going to play hard, and to win."

Robert A. Baum

Howdy, y'all...who else received their Christmas Card from Dubyuh and Mrs. Bush today?!

It says, "Thy face, Lord, do I seek: I believe that I shall find the goodness of the Lord in the Land of the Living!" (Psalm: 27:8, 13 (RSV))

"May happiness be yours during this season of goodwill and may the New Year bring peace on Earth. 2001"

The Bible verse was the best part of a beautiful card - my guess is that every contributor to FR received a card - those that give here, would certainly give elsewhere.

Thank you for the beautiful Christmas cards President and Mrs. Bush! (When you get out of office in 7 years, will you tell us your nicks then?)

You know, my FRiend, Ronaldus Maximus has been outta office fer 13 years and he and his wife have still not revealed their "nicks" and I'd really prefer that they not be revealed. If Dubyuh keeps goin' like he's goin'...I'm probably not gonna want to know his "nicks", either!!

I'm sure they're there, but what the hay...they ain't slowin' him down so far!!

My uncle died on the California that morning, fifteen years before I was born. A week later my grandmother received a postcard from him postmarked December 6th. I can only guess at what emotions she must have had reading it.

Thank you for your Uncle's ultimate service for all of us.

On the radio today, I heard of a family who was notified that their son had been killed at Pearl - several days later, after his funeral, they were told that he was alive and well.

12.7 and 9.11 have provided us with all the emotional roller-coaster rides I can ever imagine.

On this day exactly 60 years ago, our country endured an attack whose "infamy" hasn't been equalled until September 11th, 2001. The attack on Pearl Harbor was quick, vicious, and deadly. As we have seen in our own time, those who attack us from our blind side (i.e. when we didn't see it coming) may draw first blood, but ultimately it will be their blood that will be spilled by the soldiers............backed by the citizens.............of the most powerful nation on this earth; a nation whose resolve doesn't crumble but steels when attacked.

We salute and thank God in His Heaven above for those who gave their lives in World War II. They didn't just fight to avenge Pearl Harbor; they fought in the Pacific, in Europe, Africa, all over Asia........to defend our way of life and to ensure the triumph of free peoples over those who would enslave us.

As we salute those of our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, or parents who are currently tracking down those who perpetrated our generation's "Pearl Harbor", we remember those who died in their Country's service in Hawaii sixty years ago. God grant mercy to their souls; may He embrace them with His loving arms and provide them eternal comfort.

We'll Never Forget

Remembering Again

December 7th came again at midnight
Like smoke and darkness from the Rising Sun.
Remembering again, we fight the Good Fight.
Another mourning cries at evil done.

The eagles' realm which holds the Purple Mountains
Has bred a folk upon its heartland grain,
Rained by waters flown from Living Fountains,
Who eat of fruit grown on the moral plain.

In peace our generosity is gold.
Our stature arms ferocity in war.
No Lilliputian tyrant's ropes can hold
The longhorn or the grizzly… So we roar.

Let History warn well the still defiant:
The doomed will dare to rustle sleeping giants

Powerful writing, Sabertooth!

Thank-you for the ping. Sorry to be getting back so late. That graphic you posted was wonderful - very moving, along with so many other of the pictures and graphics in this thread. Today is a sad day, made sadder still by what happened on 9/11.

You do a wonderful service for the wonderful vets. My father is a WWII vet, having served in the Navy for four years. My husband is a Viet Nam vet, having served in the Air Force for 8 years. My son-in-law is now serving in the Air Force. I am proud of all of them as I am proud of every man and woman that has served their country.

All the best to you. As I get to know you here on FR, I've grown to love your wicked sense of humor as well as your dedication.
