I once dreamed I was about to marry George Harrison. Which was very strange, because he'd never been a "crush" of mine. And in the dream, although I was very apprehensive about marrying a celebrity, I felt very happy. I knew I was marrying the nicest, kindest man in the whole world. I woke up with a wonderful happy feeling. I've never understood why I had this dream, but I've never forgotten it. I always had a really good feeling in my heart about Mr. Harrison since that day; I've always been sure he was just as lovely as I had dreamed.

It's very heart warming to read so many kind remarks about him here. It's a dreary day here, which is suitable, because I am really very sad about this.

I was born in'61,my introduction to the Beatles came whenever we visited my grandmther in Liverpool,
we'd sit in the "front parlor"playing my aunts beatles 45's and listening to her tales from her teen cavern club days
George will be sadly missed by anyone with a soul(50's dad!)
A uniquely talented guitarist and songwriter, deeply spiritual man and a world class spokesman for his country and generation.
God bless you George, may you finally rest in peace.

I'm not nearly old enough to have been around when the Beatles were. I wasn't born until six years after they broke up. I was too young to really remember anything about John Lennon's death, and certainly too young for it to impact me much.

But my father is a musician and I have been listening to the Beatles (at times even unwillingly) pretty much since conception:) One of the first songs I learned to play on the piano was Get Back and one of my favorite guitar songs to play is Here Comes the Sun. I learned a great deal about harmony from songs like This Boy and Because. My first venture at an elementary school talent show was lip-syncing I Got My Mind Set On You.

The Beatles, and George Harrison in particular, have been very influential in my life and it is very saddening to hear of George's passing. May the Lord bless him and the family and fans he has left behind. Thank you, George, for your gift to us.

And so the journey begins....

My favorite song of his: "Here Comes the Sun"
I play it at the first minute of Spring each year.
Been doing that for 25 years....

WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU

We were talking
About the space between us all
And the people
Who hide themselves behind a wall
Of illusion
Never glimpse the truth
Then it's far too late
When they pass away

We were talking
About the love we all could share
When we find it
To try our best to hold it there
With our love (With our love)
We could save the world
If they only knew.

Try to realize it's all within yourself
No one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small
And life flows on within you and without you

We were talking
About the love that's gone so cold
And the people
Who gain the world and lose their soul
They don't know
They can't see
Are you one of them?

When you see beyond yourself
Then you may find peace of mind is waiting there
And the time will come when you see we're all one
And life flows on within you and without you

Never heard a Beatles song until 1988 when I was an 18 year old wet behind the ears teenager. Loved the Beatles ever since.

George was my favorite. His music affected me more deeply than the others' music.

My sweet Lord, may he rest in peace. Amen.

To all,

I've never been a big fan of Harrison simply because I didn't know him like Paul or John. Now that I see the songs that he's responsible for and read the lyrics, I see just how ignorant I am. While John was snowing us with nonsensical BS in his lyrics, George brought meaning. He's MUCH more than I recognized!

No one REALLY dies when they've had this much of an impact and are remembered like this.

What I feel, I can't say
But my love is there for you anytime of day
But if it's not love that you need
Then I'll try my best to make everything succeed
Tell me, what is my life without your love
Tell me, who am I without you, by my side
What I know, I can do
If I give my love now to everyone like you
But if it's not love that you need
Then I'll try my best to make ev'rything succeed
Tell me, what is my life without your love
Tell me, who am I without you, by my side
Tell me, what is my life without your love
Tell me, who am I without you, by my side
What I feel, I can't say
But my love is there for you any time of day
But if it's not love that you need
Then I'll try my best to make everything succeed
Tell me, what is my life without your love
Tell me, who am I without you, by my side
Oh tell me, what is my life without your love
Tell me, who am I without you, by my side
What is my life without your love
Tell me, who am I without you, by my side
(fade:) Oh tell me, what is my life without your love
Tell me who am I without you by my side
George was truly a gifted spirit, a part of my life has died with his passing...I am very sad, may God grant him peace.

Sorry to hear this - Harrison is an icon for our times.

Someone may have already pointed this out, but none less than Sinatra said "Something" was the best love song ever written.

No surprises in this news. Let's be honest, the Harrison "death watch" was as lively as the Dem's Thurmond watch before Jeffords switched.

Apparently, cause of death was cancer. Throat cancer before. Lung cancer recently. Brain tumor lately. Hmm. Sounds unusual for someone his age. How did that happen?

He smoked. One article on this thread mentions dropping acid.

Reality: Do you put down the cause of death as neglect or slow suicide from abusing his body? He barely lived to twice the age he was when the group broke up. What's *really* sad is this important (possibly, perhaps even likely) preventable "early death" message will be completely overshadowed by endless drivel about how great The Beatles were, how "they changed the world", how no group can hope to compare, how it's sad there will never be a proper reunion, etc. No one will care WHY HE GOT SICK and died YOUNG. Lennon, at least, was assassinated. Not much you can do to prevent that.

Sometimes cancers just happen but this doesn't seem to be a "random" event absent any potential causes or "risk factors".

'Beatles adoration, like Kennedy worship, is primarily a generational thing, however, and the "Baby Boomers" are king of the hill right now. I'm sympathetic to your loss but don't feel it myself beyond what anyone would feel for the lost life of a random stranger.

Parents might take an opportunity like this to talk to their children about *long term* consequences of drugs, alcohol and smoking. Think about it. On average, his lifespan may have been cut by 1/3.

A sad, sad day.

So long George, I hope you've seen your Sweet Lord.

From all that I know about him, he was a great person, and definitely one of the most underappreciated musicians of our times. He wasn't a big self-promoter, let the music speak for itself. If he wrote nothing but "Here Comes The Sun", "Something", and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", then he would still be great, IMO. Oh, and don't forget "Taxman"--it's still relevant today.

I had heard that he was dying and the impression the newscaster had was that IF it was true. The tabloids are always reacting with so much hysteria that the newscaster was really doubting what she was reading. I also thought that I wouldn't care if he did or not die. I don't buy very much music and have only attended one concert and we didn't pay for that one.

With the death this morning, I find myself with a loss. He was a fine human being.
