I apologize, duckln, I am not meaning to call you--personally--"IGNORANT"...I have a lot of respect for many GoPatGoers and actually agree with a number of Pat's issues (excluding, of course, his Trade Protectionism). Still, those diehards who claim that they/Pat were right all along is quite laughable, IMHO. And to claim that "his issues are now being plagiarized" and "Bush and his 'picks' are forced to bend to Pat's way of thinking" is patently ridiculous. Pat Buchanan has never had ownership of the Patriotism "issue" or the thought that America is the Greatest Nation in the History of Mankind...and the fact that so many GoPatGoers continue to make that absurd claim is, IMHO, the basis of much of the disfavor these individuals confront on this Forum and elsewhere.

"Now that you dumped the Libertarians

I didn't "dump on" Libertarians, I expressed my heart-felt opinion about the nutcase, Harry Browne.

"...send your check to Pat"

Fer what?! Ain't he accepting unemployment checks these days...he certainly ain't a viable political candidate so anyone still contributing to his campaign is rather NAIVE.

"Should make up time wasted being a Libertarian."

The Libertarian Party is bigger than one man and will thrive after Browne's krap is renounced...and I will never be anything but a strong libertarian no matter to whom I lend my vote and support.

BTW...somewhere along the line, Pat went from being a good small-guv'ment conservative to being a Big Guv'ment toadie...that's where he lost me, I still can't figger it out!!

I don't know where this happened either. I voted for him in the Michigan Primary in '92 and '96. I think he got in bed with the unions at some point. Regardless, I know a lot of conservatives; a lot of conservatives are my friends; Pat is no conservative!

"i'm gonna spin ya like a *top* on this one."

You gotta be kiddin', my FRiend, or maybe you just weren't lurkin' much during the GOP Primary, but I've always been sympathetic to the views of many within the GoPatGo Camp. I was a solid ForbesFanatic--and still think he'd make a wonderful POTUS--but I never really sharpened my fangs fer the Brigadiers except fer when the Big Labor TROLLS within his camp started spewing the Protectionist Krapola. I'm for tightening our borders, divesting our Military from much of the Police-keeping we've drifted into, you know, a lot of Buchanan's conservative message. What drove me away was his politically-STOOOPID call fer Big Guv'ment solutions to salvaging our manufacturing base, which I feel can be revitalized by decreasing regulation and strong-arming Country's into accepting our Goods and Services instead of erecting Tariff Barriers to keep competition out.

But call sol2 if you want, and if he starts spewing the protectionist boilerplate, I'll wipe the floor with him!!

BTW...I've still got the pitchfork I bought fer the '92 GOP Primary...LOL!!

"Goes to show how little these principled "conservatives" understand true conservative thought..."

Yep...too many so-called Conservatives don't understand that Real Conservatives do not want a Big Guv'ment enforcing Morality any more than they want a Big Guv'ment promoting the Left's Immorality!! Real Conservatives, IMHO, simply don't want a huge, ever-growing Federal Leviathan...PERIOD!!

Sort sounds like REAL libertarianism, don't it?!

BTW...I've met Cong. Barr a coupla times and respect the heck outta him...almost as much as Ron Paul.

"I think he got in bed with the unions at some point."

That's EXACTLY what happened...and it was a huge political gaffe, IMHO. He was trying to rebuild the Reagan Coalition by courting the blue-collar Reagan Democrat, but totally missed the fact that Reagan's allure was not to attract Blue-Collar folks with Trade Protectionism. Plus, Big Labor has increasingly become a Mouthpiece for Big Guv'ment as Union membership in the Trades has continued to decrease only to be supplemented by Government Unions, which are against everything Ronaldus Maximus ever believed in.

"Regardless, I know a lot of conservatives; a lot of conservatives are my friends; Pat is no conservative!"

Couldn't agree more...MUD

Fer what?

Fur all the entertainment he's providing you, lot cheaper than golf.

I still can't figger it out!Let me help. Pat was great until he won a few primaries, then they all pounced on him for rocking the boat. The Democrates were always afraid of his verbal powess, he's one guy they never brought before any congressional committee, be it Watergate, Iran Contra, he was IMHO, in the know on it all.

What soured you , and many, is when, on the turn of a dime the GOP'ers coldcocked him. They all kicked him in the head, truth be dammed, from W. Will, Chavez, our buddy McCain, Bennett, Buckley, Rush, Kristol, the only exception I can think of was Bob Novak, me and Pat. They applied this massive efford to insure Bush would prevail in the election, all this was done at Pat's expense. He was no more indespensible than Nixon, Gingrich, or Starr.

So you see, you've been caught in the vortex (heading down) by this enterage. Wake up, my friend, start doing your oun thinking. Try to think outside the box and when the clarion calls, mount up and ride to the sound of the guns! Isn't and wasn't Pat great?

Sans wine, sans song, sans end.

Truthfully, what cost Pat my support--and a number of the folks you named above--was his leap to the Left on the issue of Free Trade. Protectionism is anathema to me, and to G. Will, Wm. Buckley, and Rush, and Pat pissed all over the concept in a frutiless attempt to gain the support of Big Labor, whom I guess Buchanan felt was "in play" since Clinton had been pro-NAFTA. As fer McCain and Kristol and a number of others, they're RINOs anyway and their opinions have no impact on mine whatsoever.

"They applied this massive effort to insure Bush would prevail in the election, all this was done at Pat's expense."

They did that at Forbes and Keyes and Quayle's expense as well, my FRiend, or were you under the delusion that the '99-'00 GOP Primary was a 2-man race?! Fact is, those folks believed Bush was the best chance for beating Gore, and one could make the argument that they may have been right (although I'll go to my grave believing Forbes could have whupped Gore handily). It's called politics...and sometimes our favorite candidate doesn't win.

"He was no more indespensible than Nixon, Gingrich, or Starr."

Nixon's and Gingrich's wounds were self-inflicted, and Starr was not brought down by the GOP, but by the Vast, LeftWing Medyuh Whore'd...and Starr's spineless unwillingness to Fight Like a Man cost him as well.

"So you see, you've been caught in the vortex (heading down) by this entourage. Wake up, my friend, start doing your own thinking. Try to think outside the box..."

Gimme a break, duckln...I'm no lemming following Party orders, not by a long shot. I will continue to insist the GOP do what I expect must be done and no Effete Elite PUNKS will convince me otherwise.

"...and when the clarion calls, mount up and ride to the sound of the guns!"

You can bet on it...when the fighting starts in earnest, I'll be as close to the middle of it as I can possibly get!!

"Isn't and wasn't Pat great?"

Admittedly, Pat's rhetorical skills were quite invigorating in their day, but even you have to admit that the World of Politics have left him behind (Reform candidate went from 10% with Perot to under 1% with Pat...remember) and his best bet for future relevancy would be to regain his credibility as an Elder Statesman by publically denouncing his pro-Protectionist Stands. Another thing that would reinvigorate interest in his personage--he'll never be a National candidate again, IMHO--would be for him to pick up the Clinton Re-Impeachment/Indictment Ball and run with it!! His rhetorical skills would come in handy in that upcoming effort.

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to re-explain my Buchanan position...I might have to file this away the next time one of my GoPatGo FRiends starts flaming me as a GOP dupe...LOL!!
