"...who gave southerners the steel plow...?"

I believe you are giving John Deere too much credit here. I know for a fact, the ingenious cotton seed planting machine was invented by a Southerner, a Mr. Neves, of SC.

and your point is?

The John Deere plant in Pontiac, is being shut down because of JD's 29 cent pencil pushing idiots, and I for one, find it repulsive that JD has found an out to bury their incompentance by creating a circus act over someone having a Confederate Battle Flag on their tool box.
To use a symbol of ones heritage as an excuse to cover up corporate mismanagement and incompentance, takes the boys of the corporate board room down to a level lower than Whale $hit!
The plant was to be closed soon anyway, they just found a sickening way to get out of having to admit they blew it big time.

Too bad they couldn't bankrupt the jerks. That's coming. They're not exactly doing a booming business lately, though they're keeping their heads above water.

But it'll be interesting tio see how their sales climb in the South in 2002 as the Spring planting and new machinery purchasing time rolls around. Don't bet the farm on them.
