But to proffer children fairy tales [from the Bible (added for clarity)] as if they were fact, with the clear implication that if they don't believe this rubbish they are bad children and God won't love them -Truly one of the more ignorant statements I've ever read on FR.
Calling Scripture "rubbish" is certainly your right, whether I agree with you or not, but suggesting that "God won't love them" reveals that, however much Scripture you've read, you understood none of it.

Damning someone to EVERLASTING and ETERNAL burning isn't exactly what we call the act of a loving parent, especially if it's for something such as living a good life, but decided to do so without bowing down and worshiping some guy just because he says "bow down and worship or it's off to the pits with ye".
Some of us just call them as we seem them, is all. But this is an argument old as the color green..no point in trending on old ground I suppose.

...no point in trending on old ground I suppose.Presuming you meant treading, then why do you do it? :) I was speaking of the meaning of Scripture, not how some misguided soul might misconstrue it.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Paul Lynde was one of my favorite characters on that show when I was a kid. I always looked forward to his appearances and thought he was a complete riot. Now (with this thread) I suddenly realize I was laughing at and appreciating gay camp. Oh well... he was funny, and in a way a kid could appreciate.

Where does Scripture command "us" to go out and kill homosexuals? Chapter & Verse -- New Testament, please.

Lynde was great! Next thing you are gonna tell me is that Liberace wasn't a ladies man?
If I can badly quote Austin Powers: "I can't believe it. Liberace was gay? Women loved him!"

And you can trust people in the Wiccan community, right? The very group that tells people that there are good witches and bad witches out of one side of their mouth, tells them there is no right and wrong, no way to judge, out of the other. They are credible -- sure.

"Especially the part where it commands us to go out and kill homosexuals." Chapter? Verse? Context?
Leviticus 20:13 -- If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

"Bewitched" jumped the shark when we were expected to accept the new Derwood, er, Dagwood, er, Darren. That's not quite the same as running out of script ideas -- the first Darren was physically and mentally unfit to continue acting.

I used to be into the occult. I can assure everyone that there ain't nothing there but a lot of self-delusion, coupled with self-hypnosis. The same applies to religion.
The simplest way to fly is to get a plane ticket, or go up in a balloon, and the most effective way to pray for something is by using your hands and ingenuity to get what you want.
People who are into new age are even more delusional than most, thus this author doesn't have a clue.

You neatly evaded the third query; maybe you inadvertently overlooked Woodkirk's post #87.
Let me supply a context, then:
The Levitical (Old Testament) proscription of homosexual acts was universal in its moral application, but the civil punishment applied to Israel, a theocracy directly under God's governance.
The New Testament proscription of homosexual acts (manifestly clear to all but the semantically challenged or theologically obdurate) in Romans 1, 1 Corinthians 6, Galatians 5, 1 Timothy 1, and Jude articulates the same unequivocal moral censure, but there's no imperative for "us" to mete out any civil punishment.
To: Caleb1411
You're absolutely right, of course. There is no verse comanding "us" to go out and kill homosexuals; nor was there
ever a verse authorizing individuals nor gangs to do so. It was once, however, a capital offense in the theocracy of Israel, subject to governmental trial and execution. While we are no longer under the law of Moses, God's moral sanctioning of homosexual behavior has not changed, as you point out.
But experience tells me that facts are not what jlogjam's interested in, so I doubt your seeds will bear much fruit beyond (at best) more yapping and snarling.

Good post. Good science fiction and fantasy focuses kids on reality. They make believe and think about stuff that centers on reality. Entertainment that leads kids away from reality doesn't do that, and so is harmful.
To: BibChr
While we are no longer under the law of Moses The Bible says what it says. You can spin it whatever way you like. Fundies are quite happy with the Old Testament -- they spin it a different way.
It's all baloney to me.
