It's janking the warriors chains that makes me day.
Is it often like this? I think I like it....
You do not know what my position on the Bible is ... though if you were to do a thorough search on FR you would find out. Simply because I cited it does not imply that my beliefs are one way or the other. (Hypothetically, I could be trying to lampoon it by showing how ridiculous it is.)
Actually, my beliefs about it are irrelevant; the reason I cited the Bible is because the originator of this thread stated he "holds to a higher power, and wishes to shape society in accordance with the laws of Almighty God" which sounded like a Biblical reference to me. I even cited this line in my first post that set you off so much. Apparently that wasn't sufficient.
In any case, you appear to lack the ability to distinguish between the concepts of advocating a particular behavior, and merely condoning it (or, not banning it). They are different concepts, different words, and with different meanings.
Further, you continue to try to pin on me that I advocate drug use, despite my repeated denials of this. You put words into my mouth, and you imply that I conduct certain illegal behaviors. You also insult me claiming that maybe you need to type slower so I can understand.
What, exactly, is your problem with me that causes you to feel it necessary to do these things?
Our Founding Fathers understood that Laws were important to ensure that certain unholy members of society did not corrupt the rest. Hence the Laws against Pornography, Sexual Immorality, Adultery, Polygamy, Sodomy Ect...
It was the radical hippies in the 1960's that changed things.
We need to change them back.
But, did He leave that up to me, to face the consequences in the afterlife, or did He intend for the jackbooted thugs to shoot me in my bed, like they do to so many other users, and not only a few innocents as well?
(And, how do you know that all the things that are illegal fry brains after less than heavy, prolonged use anyway? You can fry your liver with alcohol, and wine is explicitly mentioned in the Bible, and you can fry your lungs with tobacco, and this is quite legal to do.)
from strictly a political position i can see this happening. i am keenly against abortion, yet the supreme court has for the most part made any statements i make about abortion and any actions i take to stop the abortion movement a moot point. not much poor little me can do about it.
given this, voting for a pro-abortion candidate may make sense if this is the only major issue that one has a difference with the candidate.
i would like to take this one step further. the liberals are very good at bringing up abortion. they are pro-abortion. it is a dead issue (pun intended). not much that can be done about it now. women between 18 and 40 tend to vote pro-abortion. this means they will vote liberal solely on the abortion issue -- even if they are conservative in other areas (against homosexual marriages, against big government, etc.)
this issue is that strong.
I flagged him for a comment. -- Why would you have a problem with that?
Now it seems to me that a California Conservative is a Democrat anywhere else, and a California Democrat is a socialist anywhere else. By the way, I've lived in San Diego, California for 21 years.
Am I seeing this all wrong, or is the entire country getting more and more socialist as the population increases by 33 million people from 1990 to 2000? (Which is like adding another Canada or a California every 10 years).
Cities have always appeared to me to get more socialist with their increasing populations, so maybe countries do too?
Hint: Search for a previous post by me on this thread. You may find some insight and discover that personally, I feel much the way you do with respect to many social issues, but have a different view as to how social problems or social ills should be dealt with. This is specifically why it enrages me to be called a druggie or any other name that an authoritarian like you believes me to be. The fact is, I am not. I am, however, pro personal responsibility, family, church, etc. etc. I don't want these things destroyed by the liberals who want to replace them with government, because government fails to address the problems that you are concerned with. I also fear the slippery slope. Liberal idealoges end up in power as often or more than Conservative ideologues. Hence, I prefer to keep the power at a minimum in order to protect my right to believe many of the smae things you do. Limiting governmental power also prevents the liberals from taxing us to death to finance all their failed social programs, which would be better dealt with through more caring entities than government bureaucrats. Do you even slightly understand this mode of thinking? Fear of the slippery slope and government intrusion which can impede my right to think and act as I do, which may be very much in line with social conservatives themselves.
In essence Douglas, you can consider me a Social Conservative with respect to my personalp lifestyle choices, and I sincerely believe that this would be the best choice for all. I don't believe the government can impose this on people though. So I am anti-authoritarian. I am a libertarian with respect to government.
An example you may be able to identify with: I don't want my tax dollars financing things like the putrid crap passed off as "art" which is funded through the NEA. We may believe in many of the same things, but I prefer to not have govenrment achieve the objectives for me, because government always stretches way beyond what was originally intended by those that conceded the power.
So you see, you need to stop with the judgemental assumptions with regards to libertarian thinking. We aren't all the filthy vile creatures you perceive us to be. Many of us simply go beyond the "easy answer" which is "pass another law" to end or alleviate social problems. Philosophically, we understand that this thinking is too simplistic and has consistently failed to achieve its objectives, while creating additional power that ends up being used against us all and eventually eliminates freedom altogether.
I am not on the extreme end of the libertarian spectrum. After all, we can't all live in the mountains. I do however, identify more with the "leave me alone" libertarians more than the "government can end all problems" conservatives or liberals. So please, stop calling me a liberal or a leftist. A leftist is usually a communists and liberal has been usurped by socialists (Nazis were socialists too), both philosophies that I absolutely abhor.
This could account for the Gender Gap. I Find it interesting that these so called women vote to be able to Kill their offspring ahead of any other issue.
In order to win, we have got to get RINO O'Conner off the Bench and Get a conservative on the Supreme Court in the Mold of Thomas or Scalia. We need to beat them the same way they beat us.
Supreme Court.
It seems that the Female Kalifornians are the real culprits.
If this is how you define your morality (secular humanism)...I got news for you...you're not on the "right"!
I'd suggest that opposition to communism was the one thing that happened to unite paleos with all the other "conservatives" during the Cold war. Note the resplit and disconnection of conservatives today after Reagan and the fall of the Soviets and recession of communism. Many paleos did become ardent cold warriors. The cold war was a temporary, necessary and pragmatic alliance. A long strange ride we were on. The ride is over and the alliance has ended.
supreme court
yes, i would like to see more conservatives on the court. i am not sure that the supreme court would reverse its decision on roe vs. wade. to do that requires a constitutional amendment.
i believe that we would knock the stuffing out of the liberals if we could somehow put abortion on the back burner for an election or two -- and i am very strongly against abortion.
Good thing for blacks they didn't feel the same way.(Dread Scott ring a bell?)
And...the question I have for you and others who are willing to support pro-abortion candidates is this...
If life and death itself is not the defining political issue for you...then what is?
