Good question on Rev.
Even with the more common interpretation, that did not stop people from writing their own book (and causing trouble). I am just glad Jesus did not write his own book. To me, that is what gives him credibility. People that write their own books, and start their own religions have no credibility, imo.

Right, but mention was made of Revelation 22 in why the abridged Bible wouldn't/shouldn't be used and Revelation 22:18 and 22:19 are used often to explain why the Bible should never be abridged (and I've also heard it used to justify the "inerrancy" of the Bible). Speficically:
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book
I can understand that applying to the book of Revelation (and thus it is just to call anyone who presents an abridged Book of Revelation a hypocrite), but many apply these verses to the entire Bible which did not exist when Revelation was written.

If you want a five year study of the Bible go to http://www.thruthebible.org/ for the teachings of Dr. J. Vernon McGee. I have been listening for over 15 years and I continue to learn from him. He passed away about eight years ago, but his program continues to broadcast his taped messages. His regular broadcast is made in over 80 languages.
He sounds like an old timer with a Texas drawl-- talks very slowly, but after a while -- his voices tends to grow on a person. I enjoy his teachings every morning. At the present time, he is teaching from the book of Leviticus.

WAS REARED ON KJV. My memory work and much fondness is with it.
But KJV is not God. Bibliolotry is not Righteousness. The printed paper and ink is not God.
It's certainly not a workable option with those for whom English is a 2nd language.
I hope you don't have undue, somewhat arbitrary reverence for a verson.
Other versions can have something to offer on this or that passage. The Living and The Message have both brought me closer to God at various times.

It is interesting that you note that Revelation was written before other books. I am a little foggy on exactly when these books were written, but what I learned is that Second Peter was the last 'book' (letter) to be written.
I never really got into how researchers actually determined the precise date of a NT work. Do you have any information on that?

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that Revelation was written later -- I'm not much of a scholar in that field so I don't know the chronology. What I meant was that Revelation was written before the Bible itself existed -- because the Bible (or specifically the New Testament) was compiled from a number of different writings, including the book of Revelation. Even had that been the last written work chronologically there was still no New Testament to which it could refer in 22:18-19.

You are correct. The verses you quoted apply to the Book of Revelations, period.

I'm with you -- my Douay Bible has several verses
in the books which are included in the KJV that have been entirely left out of the KJV. Also, a major difference in interpretation in the Christmas story. In the Gospel According to Saint Luke, when the angel appears to the shepards to herald the Good News, the verse is translated, "Peace on Earth to men of good will,"
not "Peace on Earth; good will toward man." I tend to go with this Douay translation, as it puts the onus on MAN to maintain good will in order that there be peace on Earth. The other sounds as if peace on Earth is simply to be a gift from on high.
Bible study is the same as the Bible itself -- one man's interpretation given to another man. Just so with the gift of Faith, religion, I think each person interprets as he sees things. And will only find the true answers when he reaches his Final Reward.

Beware of Murray. He teaches heresy.
Here is only some of the false stuff he teaches:
[1] Denies the historic doctrine of the Trinity.
[2] Believes that men were once gods who existed prior to living on the earth.
[3] Teaches the divisive doctrine promoted by other cults that the Anglo-Saxons are the chosen race, and America and Great Britain are the lost tribes of the children of Israel.
[4] Denies the existence of hell.
[5] Claims the doctrine of the rapture is "cultic."
[6] Bestows a special honor on himself, claiming to be Gods exclusive end time messenger for the world.
[7] Falsely claims to have a doctorate degree from a properly accredited university or seminary.
But the core of his teaching centers around the sinister "serpent seed" doctrine that has been linked to various identity "Christian" and right-wing neo-nazi groups. What this doctrine teaches is that in the Garden of Eden, Eves sin was that of having literal sexual intercourse with the serpent, which resulted in the pregnancy that produced Cain; the devils literal offspring.
Murray says the descendants of this offspring are the "Kenites," a hybrid that include the Jews of today. These were the "Jews" who killed Christ, he has stated in his tape called "Grace: Baptism," adding that "if you have ever really believed that group was the chosen of God you were deceived by Satan!"
In the same tape Murray teaches that even among Christians the different races should have no fellowship.
Here is only ONE of the places where you can read about this phony.

Well, I'd like to add to that the name of Pastor Art Evans, of San Diego's Christian Worship Center. You can access the church's website at www.christianworshipcenter.org

Would you like an aswer to that or are you simply trying to be argumentative?Well, I consider OBL to be a beast . . . an animal . . . something less than human!!! But if that's argumentative in your opinion, then so be it !!!
Answer if you desire . . . I've already had an email answer from a non-loving lurker who calls me SwineDejure !!!

"Bible teachers" are a dime a dozen. People who aren't grounded in the cardinal (CORE) doctrines of the historic, Scriptural Christian religion, will not be able to tell the difference between the real mc-coy and a counterfeit, and can easily be led astray. You could be one of them.

What is taking this poster so long with coming up with a definition of the word heretic?spoosman, the definition goes something like this . . . "here" is an adverb, which typically means "this place" . . . and "tic" is a noun which typically means "involuntary face muscle spasm"!!!
Oak Hay . . . Flame Away !!!

Isn't it amazing how different people can read a simple statement and make so many things out of it? They are coming at it from their own life experiences and putting their own spin on it, which may or may not have anything to do with the original intent.

An excellent Bible study program and I just loved listening to him (used to every morning for about 2 years 'till I moved and had to work all day). I didn't know he's still on the air. I doubt he's on in the afternoons and I don't believe he's on where I live.

Dr. J. Vernon McGee is still on the radio with many stations covering the "Thru the Bible " series. I prefer to listen to him from the web site -- http://www.thruthebible.org/ since I can then listen at any time of the day. His messages give me the incentive to put up with all the daily problems that we face without becoming discouraged. After all, in the end, God wins!

listen to him from the web site -- http://www.thruthebible.org/ Thanks for that tip, as well; I would love to listen to him again. Actually, I was just telling someone about him last week; what timing.
