I have a flag on my car and yes it's getting tattered. But I plan to keep it there till the day we get Osama. I don't care if it's the size of a tissue.

I feel the same way--I don't have a small flag, but the day after 9/11, I tied large red, white, blue, and black, in honor of all those people, on my antenna, and they're still there, getting tattered. But they'll stay there until this evil is dealt with.

Nope. I put that flag on my car a few days after Osama murdered 5000 Americans and it stays till his head is on a platter. (-: I saw many such flags on cars when I was driving home yesterday and it was a great sight. One was on the antenna of police car in fact - and will people accuse the cop - who puts his life on the line every day....of not being a patriot?

It's amazing how people want to say who should fly a flag when where how - such elitism and crankiness. Short of abusing the flag, which I am not nor are any of the others with flags in their car windows, I think it's great that folks are appreciating the freedoms we have and expressing that in the way that they can.

LOL....gee that's a good idea for 'Charley's Angels'. I bet he's a real charming fellow too, and such a deal. I guess if you went out with Charley you could get a two-fer - bashing Israel AND Americans who fly the flag. (-;

I made a trip too, Charlie!

One week after 9/11, my husband & I drove from California.....to our Florida home.

We were still in shock from the past week's tragedies...........and I can tell you....

...our spirits were encouraged with the symbolism displayed EVERYWHERE we went.....

....from little modest homes, to giant buildings......from small shops, stores and Mom & Pop businesses ...to large hospitals, grocery store chains, and corporations......

...yes, and cars, cars, cars, trucks, motorcycles and everything else that moves..........we saw our beautiful flag honored!!

....Many times, driving on the freeway, there would be banners draped on the overpass .....with God Bless America and United We Stand....

...Sure, it looked strange to see such an abundance of patriotism on the main drag of Las Vegas ----literally everywhere one looked!

...but we have suffered such a dearth of anti-patriotism for such a long time..........a little overkill feels just about right!!

...Those who know better try to honor their flags just like you want it, Charlie.
...They put them out in the morning & take them in at night.

...but many don't understand this, and need to be taught...........and right now, they just want to be part of this groundswell of feeling good about the USA!!

Get with the program, Charlie :^)

All Veterans on this forum know the type of respect the flag receives in the military.

This strict adherence to the proper ways of displaying the flag becomes ingrained behavior for the rest of your life.

I, like Charlie Reese, do not like to see it displayed in any other way than the proper way.

If you are not sure of the proper ways in which the flag is to be displayed there are many sources available for that information.

Teach,educate...teach, educate...teach, educate. I love it when someone states the obvious, then thinks he's the only one. It's one thing to be critical...but, it's another to have a solution. Thanks for sharing Charlie...duh.

On the 4th of July, this past summer, we had some friends over to celebrate the day. I had the house decked out in usual fashion - flags everywhere! One friend is a naturalized US citizen originally from Panama. She said she was not used to seeing flags anywhere because it is illegal, in Panama, for a private citizen to fly their flag. Seems they think it foments too much National Pride . . . . . is that what this Reese person wants? I can't have National Pride (shown by flying my flag) except on government sanctioned days? FOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEY!

I like seeing the flag. To me it says "America" whether it is on a pole, a shirt, or a mug. It's a way I think that everyone can show their support no matter where they are or what they're doing.
I disagree. A flag, properly flown and respected shows patriotism and says "America."

However, anybody who disrespects the flag is showing disrespect for America. I certainly don't have any respect for foriegners who burn the flag in the streets yelling "Death to America." But I don't have much respect for someone who places a flag on their advertising flyer, so that hundreds of people can throw it away, either.

The only thing that puts them slightly above the foreigners burning the flag in the street is that the business printing the flag on their advertising (probably) did it out of ignorance. I usually send a letter with a copy of 4 USC Sec. 8 with the part that they have violated highlighted to the president/owner of the business. If I see a repeat of the disrespectful display, I consider it deliberate, knowingly disrespectful, and I avoid that business. Since September 11, I haven't been writing as many letters as I should because there are so many people showing so much disrespect for the flag out of complete ignorance.

Perhaps one thing that would help would be if the makers of real flags would include some instructions about how to properly display and respect a flag. Perhaps they could include a synopsis of 4 USC Sec. 8 with their products. Of course, those making American flag T-shirts and other disrespectful products wouldn't do this, because nobody who wants to honor the flag and the nation would buy their products if they knew the proper way to respectfully display the flag.

Yeah figures the sight of an American flag would make you feel queasy too.
Seeing a bunch of people who hate this country burn an American flag publicly in a street riot doesn't make me feel good. That's disrespect for the flag and for our country.

Seeing an American flag printed on a plastic shopping bag also gives me a bad feeling. Not because I don't like the flag, but because that flag won't get the respect it deserves. The people who printed it there are almost as bad as the people who burn the flag in the street riot. The only mitigating factor is that the people who print the flag on disposable items do it out of ignorance, not hatred. But in the end, it's still disrespectful. Most will stop if you point out how disrespectful they are being. Show them a copy of 4 USC Sec. 8 and highlight the part that shows their disrespect.

I might just print a few copies to carry with me and leave tucked under the windshields of cars with tattered, dieing flags on them.

I am sure you will make many friends leaving instructions on people's cars.

My dry cleaner has American flags now on the covers they put the clothes in. Should I switch cleaners?

Everyone is doing what they can, expressing themselves and I applaud that. I am sure the POTUS would approve.

And when you get home, you display these flags proudly? When they are no longer fitting symbols of our republic and our freedom, you arrange a dignified and reverent ceremony, play taps for them and burn them with the respect that they deserve?

I'll bet that most people throw them in the trash can when they get home. They are throwing the symbol of your freedom and my freedom in the trash can. I find that extremely disrespectful. That's where the problem is.

Like I said, I would take the cleaner a copy of 4 USC Sec. 8 and point out that their new plastic covers show disrespect for the flag, and disrespect for the great republic and the people and the freedoms that the flag represents. Specifically, they are showing disrespect in these ways:

Again, the flag is a symbol of my freedom. I consider it very disrespectful and a personal insult and threat when people throw it in the trash. If the cleaner continued to show disrespect for me, my freedom and the republic that the flag represents, I would exercise my freedom by taking my business elsewhere.

We are indeed all Americans, but to be an American is to be loyal to the Constitution and to the government that it created as specified in the Constitution.

A few months ago most americans did not know who are vice president was let alone what the constitution is. I would bet anyone that 9/10 americans think that the bill of rights and the constitution are the same or would say "Huh? What are those?".
