This is great, after years of screaming by groups like FAIR for more immigration enforcement, some light is put on the subject. Congress is the problem, they don't have the testosterone to do anything that might be perceived as anti PC.
And don't blame the INS employees who have to live with the political apointees who ran the INS and handcuffed them while they tried to do their job. It's always been politics. Same thing in the early 80's Carter made noise about cracking down on Iranians but nothing happened in reality. For you people that haven't travelled much try going to major cities, like Washingtron D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, etc and see how many immigrants are there. Fact is if they are illegal, how in heck do you count them? Where does 8 million come from?.....

"Anyone in favor of CLOSING our borders?" I'm in favor of closing our borders to illegal immigrants.

Well, it is news to me. I've had some dealings with the INS in years back over some Australian friends. You wouldn't believe the hoops that the INS mae them jump through to stay -- all the time warning them to never DARE to speak to a Congressman or elected official about it, or it would mess things up. We were told that the State Department was very jealous of their authority and didn't like having elected officials mess in their business. That to contact an elected official would ensure that these people were deported. As a Immigration Inspector, I have been chewed out by my Supervisors, because I have told immigrants that are having problems with INS to contact their local congressman.
INS middle and upper management hate to field requests from Crongressional Offices, but it does seem to work and I will continue to advise people to contact their Congressmen as needed.

I'm in favor of closing our borders to illegal immigrants. In times of war, how do we know who should be "illegal." Seriously, in a practical, let's make it work reality, do we have a way of achieving safe legality?

"Seriously, in a practical, let's make it work reality, do we have a way of achieving safe legality?" IMHO, yes...Zero Tolerance Immigration Policy is NOT a Goal of mine, but eliminating the continuance of our Bi-Partisan National Indifference to Illegal Immigration most certainly is!!

You would find me whispering them in some cafe or place where no one can hear me speak. I hear you (no pun intended). I used to live in Snohomish. You could speak up there.
I think the Seattle area has changed since I left (1987) because I did not find it as liberal as you all describe now. Of course I lived in Snohomish and my husband worked in Everett. Also, I lived there only 5 years, so perhaps that was not long enough to find out.
People do hold some strange views there, however. I used to think it was because the boom/bust economies that have plagued Washington State since its founding. Everybody feels like they are one paycheck to unemployment.

Too much breaking news gets moved too quickly This has stayed in Breaking News 6 hours so far, so I count myself lucky.

Zero Tolerance Immigration Policy is NOT a Goal of mine You know, I never thought I would even be thinking of zero tolerance immigration....not compatible with my ideals of liberty....under usual circumstances. BUT, in a war against terrorism and all the stuff I read about how terrorist can get into this country legally, coalition pressures, etc. I am swaying toward isolationists attitudes. I know I am setting myself up for flaming. But war demands extreme measures. This terrorist war terrifies me, almost as much as Clinton did (does)!!!!

Dear Hostage, your story was compelling and repeated in INS offices across the country, I bet. You must realize that hassling white people is the most fun an INS agent can have. If they hassle anyone else, they are chastised as racist profilers. It is a disgusting situation.

This is an excellent article. The mention of Dubai should really send chills through our veins. It was reported that bin Laden was there for kidney failure treatment in July, and although a top CIA official met with him, he was not arrested.

from the article:
Which is more important: the safety of American citizens or the comfort of wealthy Middle Eastern aliens? Until our embassy officials wipe the sand from their eyes and stop selling American visas blindly to every foreign investor waving cash, homeland security is a pipe dream.I choose the safety of American citizens without abridgement of the Bill of Rights. Michelle is right, at present, homeland security is a pipe dream.
To: LiberteeBell
The war on terrorism is a joke at the present time. The war has broken down along different agendas that special interests are using to advance their causes without concern for overall security.
Socialists are using it to further big government and regulation. The New World Order is using the crisis to advance their cause, as example Bush pushing for trade authority in two weeks. Also, no control on immigration because that would encourage national sovereignty which should be discouraged if world government is to succeed.
The public has to realize they are on their own as far as their own safety is concerned.

I pity any human being that has to deal with the INS. USMMA correct me if I am wrong but doesn't this depend on what country you are coming from? Under Clinton the right countries were Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Syria, UAE, Jordan and any Middle Eastern or Asian country that had less than favorable diplomatic ties with the U.S. And if the INS rules were to be followed to the letter it was mainly applied to ethnic Europeans. It just seems that with the democrats in charge, policy decision generally revolve around ways to create instability and chaos in America and how to profit from it.

I saw a show on Dateline NBC which revealed how easy it is to get phony documents. The law enforcement officials really need to wake up and start cracking down on this.

I've got one to beat your story. In my subdivision, there is an operation operated by a Hispanic highschool girl. What's her price? Sex, a new outfit for school and a cell phone for the local ChatLine. Oh, she'll through in fake Drive out tags for a little more, (red hair dye).

I think that it was Kruschev who said that America would sell the rope to the person who planned to hang them (rough paraphrase)...reminds me of the NJ Mafia who was making gobs of cash by illegally dumping toxic waste that they had removed in their carting businesses...they were dumping it into the woods and streams of their own state where it could get into the groundwater and poison their own families...greed is stupid and evil.
