Its more than cultural, it has religious roots. I am not so reluctant to criticize a country, where Islam is the rule of law. In fact, in the moslem world itself, one only has to think of the kind of life that simple people must suffer under the ayatollahs, but ESPECIALLY if your a woman--who are degraded to a worse level than slavery, who have to veil themselves from head to to because it is a sin to be seen, who can't drive cars, and who must accept arranged marriages or live according to the whims of fathers and brothers or face a death penalty for bringing dishonor to the family name.
Just these few examples are unacceptable to western and civilized norms, where moral standards and punishments long ago abolished in our culture is still prevalent--the norm--and even the slightest attempt at criticism or attempt at thinking critical of the "divine and infalliable" Qu'ran is punishable by death.
Nope--I have no problem telling them their society s*cks. And to add further insult to injury I'll throw in this:
Allah is not "Akbar"--not by a longshot.
I think it would be the other way around. Those women have no freedom--nothing at all. Either they accept the groom chosen for them or face the death penalty for humiliating the family. I feel terribly sorry for them. :(
Oh Mahaa...."
Ahaa.....
One of my very favorite Stooges.
I think you should try to break yourself of this habit.
Right is right and wrong is wrong, no matter the random geographic accident of where you live.
