This would be a complete turn around for the Iranian government. They have opposed the Taleban since it's formation. A couple of years ago the Taleban murdered 11 Iranian diplomats sent to talk with them about refugees.

The Iranians just can't wait for their turn.

I disagree. Time to assassinate Khamenei.
The public supports the US and wants to bring back the Shah.

Iran has decided to help both the afghan ruling Taleban regime against the United States and the "Al-Qaeda" organisation to mount new terrorist operations aimed at the US and British forces stationed in the Persian Gulf, informed sources with access to the Revolutionary Guards intelligence said Friday.Iran will have a nuclear device by the year 2004. If we do not destroy the entirity of that country before then, we deserve the explosion that will certainly occur in our shores.

So they make peace overtures to the US, and covertly help terrorists? Sounds like typical Islamic lying to me. Lie to everyone, and stab them in the back the first chance you get. Sit Norm.

Iran is the breeding ground for terRorism. They are what Nazism was to Germany. Now the question- will we go into that country? My answer is no. Therefor we won't end terrorism. We will again repeat history as we did after WWII. Remember this war is just as much about OIL.

The more time goes on, the more I do think this is indeed a relgious war: look at the LYING by Iran, the LYING by Pakistani elements, the POLITICAL POLLS showing Muslims in Britain support bin Laden. It truly is the Muslims...seeking to wipe out men, women and children who aren't of the same religion, against Christian, Jews, and anyone else who doesn't believe in their religion. I didn't feel this way until recently. AND I agree-- if we don't do something about Iran we may "win" this war and within a year or two face a nuke-powered Iran that's formenting terrorism all over again.

Mr. Hashemi-Shahroodi, who still keeps his title as the spokesman and secretary of the Tehran-based Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SAIRI) urged judges to take "legal actions" against anyone who would dare to speak publicly of holding talks with the "Great Satan". The expression was coined by Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, th leader of the Islamic revolution, to designate the United States. But it had been largely banned from the political vocabulary in the past years.
"Our national interests lie with antagonising the Great Satan. We condemn any cowardly stance toward America and any word on compromise with the Great Satan'', Mr. Hashemi Shahroudi said, using a term favored by hard-liners to describe the United States. "Our foreign policy, constitution, religion and people reject any compromise with oppressor America. Those who speak of relations with America are not speaking for this Muslim nation'', added, quoted by the independent Iran's student news agency ISNA.
This sounds odd to me. Iran has never been friendly to the Taliban. They recently entered a tacit agreement with us allowing for some unofficial "emergency" use of their airspace.
They know we're going after Saddam Hussein, who is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iranians, including civilians, during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s. They can't like the idea of the Butcher of Baghdad rolling out his tanks through the region backed up with weapons of mass destruction.
So how does this news, if true, make any sense?
Methinks this about-face has to do with the rioting in Teheran right now, and the hardliners are hoping to divert domestic attention to the "Great Satan," in order to defuse the domestic turmoil there which is threatening to end the reign of the radical mullahs.
Watch for a massive crackdown on secular Iranian demonstrators of trumped-up charges of "collaboratiing" with America.

Islam should be encouraged to put all of its bad eggs into the Afghanistani basket. Fifteen hundred troops is a cowardly offering. Why not 150 thousand? Syria, Iraq, and maybe even the worthless Saudis have impassioned Muslim fighters to send to war. Load them up, and send them now. It would be good for the free world and for the existing tyrants in the Satanic States of Islam if we could just drop a few nukes and vaporize a large pile of scum, all in one worthless place.

I thought Iran was against the Taliban IMO Iran is acting like Pakistan by expressing conflicting behaviors for socio-political reasons endemic in their country.

this is a simple process, you will see more countries doing this, china did it already, pakistan is following, now iran looks like we are allowing all of these bast*rds into one place. iran pulled a group out of lebanon wonder if this is the same group, send the plfp islamic jihad, and the rest over there to be carpet bombed.
