I'd forgotten all about the JP-5 in the water until you mentioned it....
In PacFleet, you'd better learn to like Phillipino cuisine, because most of the cooks and supply guys are from there, and they're going to cook what they want.
Yeah, you guys on the LHDs had it easy....try an LHA or LPD!!! ;)

Been gone for a few days thanks for the ping. Click on my name and my BookMarks for some more of them. Anybody remember back when the Navy discovered those water saving shower nozzles? Great idea for the home if it doesn't have a recirc pump on the hot water heater. Bad idea for a ship that does. The guys would turn off the nozzle and leave the water on. Hot side has more pressure so guess where it went? Ouch! there's no cold water.

When I was assigned to the Chief's Mess, we had a Phillipino boss up there; a five-foot-one scrawny fella named MS1 Bancudo
My first Westpac, he dissappeared! I went hunting all over the place for him and finally found him in his rack..AT NOON.. and said, "What's wrong?"
"Aw, man. Seasick."
" 'SEASICK'?! How long have you been in the Navy?"
"Fifteen fu*kin' years, man.." That was the funniest line I ever heard him say. He was a cool guy.
I hope he's doing OK.

Don't forget the oddities of the "bird farms". Make sure the night check maintenance people get to sleep on th 03 level under #3 wire so they can participate in the daytime flight ops. CLAAAAANG!!.....SCREEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!....and so on until its' time to keep the day guys awake by slinging chocks and dragging tie down chains around.JO's were a little better. We had a 12 man bunk room right where the tailhook dropped. CLAAAAANG!!.....SCREEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!BANG!!!!! right on my head. I learned to sleep through it mostly.
How about counting your position in the chow line to get a "John Wayne" when they're serving K-rats.

Heh! How about learning to sleep through 5-inch cannonfire while wearing the firefighter ensemble.
