I continue to be amazed by the number of women who will live in concubinage with the hope they will someday marry. Now it is even common for couples to have a child or two before marriage.
What caused this? We live in a culture of narcissism, with problems created by self-love supposedly solved by even more doses of self-love.
Marriage has been attacked from so many quarters that few people now think that getting married young and having children within the bonds of matrimony is a desirable way to live.
Boys and men have been willing to father children but not to be fathers. I place most of the blame on them, not on the women.
Women have hoped they could be such good housemates that their boyfriends would marry them. Common law marriage in the past was not all bad, but now this is just an excuse to trade partners every so often. It is a bad bargain for everyone.
Our society cannot continue to exist with these anarchist tendencies.

I've been waiting for a thread like this. I need some Freeper help. I want to start a singles club at my church. Not just any ole singles club, but one for singles who are "over the marriage hill" so to speak. Looking at ages 35-55. Of course, I can't be a member because I'm very married, but there are several singles around town and they have no place to go to meet other Christian singles. What I would like from you guys is a catchy name that will capture the intent of an "older" Christian singles club. Also some ideas for fun things they can do (nice things).

There will be plenty of kids--mostly illegal immigrants kids. We'll spend our taxes to support them in our old age.

I am LDS, and we are taught in chastity before marriage, and full fidelity within marriage. Same standard for both the man and woman. And yes, there is repentance if there is a problem. We are human.
I have a few friends who slept around, etc. They were always worried about STD's, unplanned pregnancies, "will he still love me tomorrow?", etc. I'm not saying it is easy to wait until marriage, but it will be worth it...

What a great idea! My church has a program for single adults, if you are in that age category (32 to 50), it is the Older Single Adults program. Catchy title NOT. Oh well.
