Miami bureaucrats are scrambling to appease three firemen who removed an "offensive" American flag from their truck. After a six-week "investigation," Chief Dave Paulison is contradicting the fire department's earlier report that William "D.C." Clark, Terry Williams and James Moore refused to ride a truck displaying Old Glory. Paulison now claims the three didn't refuse to work if the flag wasn't removed - but he admits they did take it down and did complain it was a symbol of "oppression" to blacks. He now says they removed it because it blocked their view - though other firemen didn't seem to have the same problem. In addition to their six weeks of paid leave, Clark and Moore must undergo counseling, the chief said. The report cited Clark with that favorite offense of liberals, "being insensitive." "This was a witch hunt. They're still not used to black men standing up and having an opinion of their own," fumed Clark, who has cried to the media that the U.S. has never apologized for slavery. Paulison said, "I have no doubt that our findings will give a clear understanding of the actions taken by our department and that we will now be able to put this incident behind us." Nope, it's not going away, despite all the spinning. Several firefighters have said they would refuse to work with the three men or back them up in a fire after they return to work this weekend, the Miami Herald reported today.

These three guys are a stain to the bravery of the firemen who give their lives or were wounded on 9/11! These firemen didn't look if the people they rescued were white, black or whatever! If these three guys don't appreciate the freedom the USA gives them, they should go to Afghanistan and put out some fires there! Also I would like to add that many "white" men died while fighting for the freedom of black slaves. If our Old Glory stands for oppression, they should also burn some US flags when they are in Afgahistan, together with the Al-Quaida people who fight for "freedom" and the Taliban guys, who don't "oppress" anyone!

Otherwise be proud of the country, and it's flag, that is the symbol of freedom and liberty!!!

my education is as far removed from "post civil war confederate democratic spin" as it could possibly get and remain in the United States, my love of and study of the history of the united states knows know boundaries as long as it is well written and makes sense, my heritage is as mixed as it can get in one country removed from European influence for six hundred years, and thus I buy into no particular spin on facts, I believe in first hand accounts by people who lived experiences, and try to read well bibliograhed historical reference tomes. I would think that mosthalf educated Americans are certainly able to think for themselves and to determine for themselves, given a desire to learn, the facts and the fictions presented as history.

BTW, I just wanted to add that in fact my way back ancestors escape a life of serfdom (ie, slavery)to come to a country that didn't exist at the time,fought for what they believed in to form this great nation;America,and later divided themselves over an issue that held other people in positions no more noble than those which previously they had escaped. Some of them later formed a midwestern link to the underground railroad and helped numerous black people to become freedmen, and some of them continued their life of disillusionment on their plantations and eventually lost all that mattered to them because they made the wrong choices somewhere along the line. I am not a racist, I am a realist, and I know for myself what this country is all about and what will bring us down as a democracy. The dissent and divisiveness of certain clamouring whiners will do nothing to keep us strong. MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA AND LONG MAY THE FLAG WAVE OVER THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE!

If they think the US flag is a symbol of "oppression" to blacks, they should leave now. The flag is here to stay.
