Did a search, didn't see it posted.

This article is fake. It was picked up by WND from a non-UPI site, then (when corroboration was not forthcoming) it was withdrawn by WND. A thorough check of UPI archives and Lexis/Nexis reveals no such article. Searches of cached web pages via Google show no record of publication by UPI, or by any other legitimate source-- just a few alternative sites, and WND for that brief moment before it was withdrawn.

As plausible as it sounds, this report is bogus.

There was a similar story a few weeks ago, but the source was questionable. This story seems to have more validity. Such a device would make a mess of the locality due to radiocontamination. The cleanup effort would be similar to a large oil or chemical spill, but all unprotected personnel would have to be evacuated for the duration. Shopowners, residents, pets. Gardens would have to be destroyed, bagged, and carted off, as would all exposed dirt, including unpaved roadways. All surfaces either cleaned like never before, or removed altogether.
