It has an ominous ring to it. And after reading Kagan and Kristol's latest pap full of vague generalities and exhortations (in which they call for more "seriousness" in gov't and foreign policy), it screams "hidden agenda". As if Kagan and Kristol spend hours and hours in a darkened room, carefully crafting their latest editorial, writing and rewriting, right down to the exact word and phrase, until they deem their handiwork appropriate for mass consumption.
Isn't it any wonder that Kristol tends to cast his lot with the shining political star of the moment? Not too long ago it was Colin Powell (now enemy number one). This past election cycle it was John McCain. Kristol and his gang are no friends to conservatism/libertarianism. He is an opportunist, angling to get in on the inside, so he can shape and influence policy. To what ends, God only knows (and I hope we never have to find out).
Then Japan finds itself with no oil, no coal, no raw materials and a US that is talking nice to the Soviets and blocking them from any access to the China market. They bomb Pearl Harbor. Granted- stupid on their part. But let's not say that it came out of the blue and for no reason.
Sometimes one has to look at the greater good as defined in the bible. If we were true to the word of man's law then squatter rights would have been ignored and the US would resemble fuedal Europe. Or we would be the original 13 states for about 20 years until France or Britain overcame, exploited, or conquered the savage Indian nations to our west. I wonder how long we would have lasted. What about the Lousianna purchase? Raimondo- I agree with alot of what you say. But when you say things like 1776 and 1812 are the only wars you agree with then you make me look bad. You might as well say there should be no USA and no Stars and Stripes. I know alot of far right wingers belief that and hope for that as do many more left wingers. But I know you don't. The USA has it's faults. I wish it were not so far flung around the world as it is now. But all in all we are a force of good and have been. And you know it.
Interesting...How come it took us 3 and a half years of all-out war to get to Okinawa? And two A-bombs to beat them?
Somehow I just can't feel as sorry for them as you do. But I bet you have some real tear-jerkers to tell about the Talibastards.
If the US declared war only against Japan and Hitler was not so stupid as to decalre war against us- which we were already fighiting in the Atlantic with our navy and subs for over two years contrary to US law- then Japan would have been toast within a year and a half. With no nukes either.
LOng forgotten now. But US propaganda highlighted the effort against the Japs over the Germans. Why? Because the Germans had done nothing to us. The Japs had though. Even though most US soldeirs were in the Europeon theater of ops our media gave the pathetic number of troops in the Jap theater the highlight. Grow up. We were suckered. I am the Great Grandson of a WWI combat vet. He knew WWII was crap from beginning to end.
The English went to war to save Poland? They gave it to the Soviets for 40 years. Fight for democracy-? Crap! We were Stalin's girls for that war. Hitler's armies and generals sent many signals to us that they were willing to surrender or fight with us against Russia and Stalin and we said yes- then took them captive and then turned them over to Soviet forces to be killed or sent to death labor camps. Don't be a fool.
