I blame public education, for everything,Public education is a reflection of the society we live in. Therefore, whether or not public education is the problem depends on what we allow to pass for public education.
Most public education before 1970 still reflected and supported the teaching of morality, values, patriotism, and educational excellence. Much of the rot started much sooner- sooner than I ever realized, but it took some time to completely take over the system.
Somehow, as those postive things have left the mainstream of our society they left the public schools too.
To sum it up, I would lay more blame at the foot of the 1960s instead of blaming one of the institutions it screwed up.

I didn't realize that we have a bunch of individuals who only care about criticizing individuals for good, honest discussion. My thoughts exactly. Oh, BTW, some of these posts are self explanatory of the title of your article. (How Have We Become a Nation of Dumbies?). Just read some of the replys, and you don't have to wonder or ask that question .
Anyway, thanks for a very insightful, articulate and thought provoking article you posted.

Easy - 40 years of control by a democrat congress!! All they ever did was throw money - never solved any problems; and they're still at it.

You can make progress against ignorance; but against stupid you lose everytime.

The denigration of our countries values and institutions is too well orchestrated to be acidental.
It was planed at the beginning of this century after WWI and its implimentation began with FDR. Think about the sequence of events in politics and education since then. Our present situation was sealed by the nomination of Eisenhower in 1952 (those who still tink of Ike as hero need to know more about him).

I think we need to focus on the immediate and serious needs....contain and deport the illegals and overstayed visas, provide ample vaccine for the public, uncensor national news ..we need an early warning sytem. theres a time for debate and a time for joking, this is not that time... we forgot the power of the people
