Well, he may welcome Sontag's comments, but they come only after she has experienced a terrifying rejection and repudiation of her previous whinings. She and her associates on the left are moral lepers who will go back to their hate - america shtick as soon as they think it is safe.I agree with you completely! She was expecting a chorus of agreement from the cowardly left who are now keeping a low-profile because of President Bush's 90% approval rating, so she had to backtrack and "re-explain" her position.
At least Andrew Sullivan had the courage to call her on it. Otherwise, I doubt there would have been any "re-explaining."

"This attack was a jolt to my consciousness. I am becoming so conservative, so fast, I think I am getting the bends. Last week I baked brownies for the folks at our local marine recruiting office." Someone go post this on DU(H). Let's watch them all have coronaries.

It seems like the only wussie left is John Mellencamp.
He must be real tired of being a country singer. There is no way this paragraph from the Sunday Times Story on the Concert for NY will go down well with country fans.
Not all of those performing approved of America's military campaign in Afghanistan. John Mellencamp, the singer, had reservations about participating in last night's event. At recent concerts "people would chant, 'USA, USA'. It was frightening", he said.

Sontag proves this morning in the NY Times that her conversion to rationality was temporary.
