Basically a rehash and some additions of his New Republic piece.

I'm not impressed with Ms. Sontag's 11th hour conversion.
It's akin to someone "discovering", that, gee, maybe, Ted Bundy wasn't such a nice guy after all!
To: Pokey78
Well, he may welcome Sontag's comments, but they come only after she has experienced a terrifying rejection and repudiation of her previous whinings. She and her associates on the left are moral lepers who will go back to their hate - america shtick as soon as they think it is safe.

"I am one of those postmodern lefties who has been going through a major reassessment of my ideas about a lot of things," wrote one. "This attack was a jolt to my consciousness. I am becoming so conservative, so fast, I think I am getting the bends. Last week I baked brownies for the folks at our local marine recruiting office."
I LOVE it!!!!

Sontag's son is pro-USA and pro-war.
I read it but don't have the thread.
She embarrassed herself.

We need to give these liberals who've seen the light a break - most of them have gone through a total REAMING of their world view; they've been raped by reality and they're just waking up to that fact. They can anesthetize themselves with their little peace vigils and big group hugs, but reality is beginning to SET IN. Be gentle - there are a lot of potential converts out there.

send in the clowns . . . they're already here.

I work with a liberal and we get along fine as long as the conversation doesn't deal with politics. In previous acrimonious political discussions with this guy I had held out that Clinton had set our nation up for a major disaster, security-wise. I pointed out examples of the Janet Reno Justice Dept as well as Clinton's attitude that "if it helped the economy it can't be wrong." On 9-11 this guy looked like a deer caught in the headlights... as things became worse he essentially just went into denial. And he is still in denial; he has invested so much of himself into left-wing ideology that to repute it now would destroy him. I told him long ago "you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free" but he would rather cling to the lies since they've become his "identity". I don't ride him about any of this... his life has become a kind of misery lately; perhaps one day soon he'll experience an epiphany and come around to the truth.

This guy must be turning conservative, he's gaining a sense of humor.

these people will do anything

I am a teacher in a NYC public school--2 of my liberal male Jewish teacher friends were discussing what had we done to make the Arab world hate us--I said that it wasn't healthy to always ask questions with the implication that we had done something wrong as a country--I told them that the young people in these countries are taught to hate in the schools--they didn't believe me--I downloaded some facts from the Web and gave each of them a copy the next day--I said all you have to do is type in 'Palestinian textbooks and anti-Semitism' and you come up with 29 websites--they were shaken up and seem much less guilty now...LOL!!!

If this is a rehash of an article, it's one I didn't see. Especially Andrew's quotes of Susan Sontag, which I find amazing. I never believed such Lefties as she is were capable of rational thought, and here she is, recognizing that her hide is at risk! Wow!

We now know for sure something we strongly suspected before: these people will do anything. The question is not whether there may be a far bigger biological or chemical attack on the West, but simply whether the enemy has the means to do so. We know full well that they have the will and the intent. We knew prior to 2000 that Iraq was preparing for just such attacks. This country should have produced and stockpiled smallpox and anthrax vaccines and made them available to those who chose to have them.
Right now they are still quibbling about the safety of smallpox vaccinations which kill one person in a million. Anthrax vaccine has apparently had some problems. Smallpox epidemics in the past killed 300,000 per million and disfigured horribly those who survived. Inhalation anthrax is 100% fatal once the symptoms develop.
It's a no-brainer. Voluntary vaccinations should be made available. I'll take my chances with the vaccines rather than the above statistics!
