May God have mercy on those Taliban souls, 'cause their sorry Earth-bound asses belong to us.

which can devastate an area the size of a football pitch.

What is the area of a football pitch????

I'd say that this baby can devastate about 1000 sq miles an hour. (250 miles/per hour x 4 miles).

It's a thermal battery. They have to power up the electronics, have voltage to light off the motor and cool the IR seeker head at the same time. And yes, think would degrade with time.

It's a thermal battery

Not familiar with those, hope they don't last more than about 10 years.

While I have been reading articles and comments posted on this forum for quite some time this is my very first input: As upsetting as this whole thing has been to me and my family it is refreshing to see people here who maintained their senses of humor. While we are all reveling in the successes of a few bombing attacks and now the introduction of the Sceptre and Spooky, ( not to be confused with Puff ) please don't forget that the Taliban forces are now hiding in their caves, in civilian homes, in hospitals and wherever they know we won't bomb. Please don't delude yourself into believing that they will be pushovers. They are merely waiting for our ground troops to actually get on the ground. That is where they hope to have the greatest impact. They and we already knew that they had no air force and minimal anti-aircraft capability.....and that remains to be seen. My question to all of you is.....Are they withholding the use of Stingers and anti-aircraft fire until our low altitude helicopters with our troops on board swoop down upon them? They are laying in wait. Please prepare yourselves to see American troops being shipped home in body bags......some of them beheaded. Don't be surprised to see videotapes, provided to the Communist News Network, of our troops being beheaded. Of course, the Communist News Network will delight in showing them! Please, don't delude yourselves and don't be disillusioned when the body bags start arriving. Yes, I have seen both the Sceptre and Spooky in action and it is one formidable machine but I have also seen the body bags. I'm not being a defeatist. Just being realistic. Prepare yourselves for the worst.......that way if all goes smoothly you'll be happily relieved.

Wasn't Puff the forerunner of the AC-130? A modified C-47 perhaps?

Did the military ever buy a system that used a common store shelf battery? Flashlights are about the only thing the services have that uses a standerd cell.

I know there have been upteen postings about the AC130, but, heck, you can't have enough stories on those babies!

Tell me about it, I feel like I'm an expert on these damn things since yesterday. And can we please have a moratorium on "withering fire"? It's this week's "gravitas".

And while I'm at it, how about MORE GHURKA STORIES! I've been boring my co-workers with some of those tall tales I read here a few weeks ago. Have we unleashed those viscious little bastards yet?
