Nobody said a word about terrorism. Just people offering their prayers to the victims of a tragedy Must you people infect every single thread with your callous non-chalance? The nothing to see here's are really getting out of hand (Our prayers go out to the victims in Nebraska as well, of course...)Traffic accidents are an everyday occurance. Since when are they a national tragedy? Since the terrorist attacks, everyday tragedies are making the "Breaking News" list. I just think we should keep things in perspective. Like I said 109 people have been dying in traffic accidents every day for years.

Injured and dying children is not hype. I suggest you put your heart in order.I agree it's not hype to the people directly affected. 30 children a day die in traffic accidents. Are we going to place these in the "Breaking News" column 30 times a day and knash our teeth? I honestly am beginning to think this is a conscious effort by the media to flood America with bad news due to a liberal bias. When a Dem is president, all is well. When a Conservative is president, every bit of bad news makes the front page.

Great prayer! Illinois prayers offered up from former band student and mother of four.

You're pretty darn grouchy this time of night, aren't you?The original question I posted to was "Why is there so much bad news?" I answered it. 3 kids in one accident maybe is national news, but there is no doubt that the liberal media is going to flood this country with bad news due to a Conservative president.

I don't know what it is lately, but you can't find a single thread where SOMEONE isn't trying to shut down discussion by saying it's hype or irrelevent or not important or treason or a waste of bandwidth or....How is it "conservative" to try to shut other people up all of the time? When tornadoes hit Cordell OK the thread filled up with smarta** remarks because at first, nobody was thinking, "Wow, a real tornado, or six, actually on the ground now tearing up people's houses."
Then there's the faction that wants only cookie-cutter opinions and ridicules anybody who has a "feeling" about anything, even dead kids. They're the ones who bring out the high rhetoric like "treason" and "Pro-terrorism" to describe anyone they disagree with. I don't know about you, but I believe their tactics were lifted straight out of the Clinton White House etiquette manual.
The Thought Gestapo is just getting a little too busy around here, and they have too often shut off and scared away useful comments and questions.
A great post which deserves to be seen again. The only thing I would add is that many FReepers live their faith and actively pray for people in need. I am very grateful for this, having been the recipient of many selfless prayers from people I have never met.
Billbears, would you add these children and their families to our prayer thread? Thank you.

That bus is bent and twisted and in water. Extraordinary that anyone survived, especially since the stupid things have no seatbelts.

While the article about the Seward Band Bus Crash was from quiet a bit back, it came up on my search and I feel the need to comment upon it. I live in Omaha Nebraska, so of course, the Seward Band Crash was a big thing to me, especially since for a while, I had no idea which school the Band had come from. It could have just as easily been from mine. My friends, the people I love, could very easily have been present on that bus. But it hurts just the same to see those people die, not just because they are Nebraskans, or Americans, but simply because they are my fellow humans.
And further more, honestly, could you be more utterly heartless. Agreed, to most people, this wasnt a big story or a breaking news flash, but you had no right to treat in the way that you did. We were talking about peoples lives, and you made it seem as if it were nothing more than an article about the hometown team losing the big game, like it was nothing more than trivial news. It is people like you who hold absolutely no sympathy in their heart for their fellow human beings that make me want to puke. May God have Mercy on your soul.

You should have looked at the date of the thread. The issue of the time was that every traffic accident was being reported as if they had never happened before. Traffic accidents have been happening regularly since the early 1900's. This accident would not have made national news if the 9-11 attack hadn't happened. The press was trying to make it look like everything was out of control and we were being attacked everywhere. This accident was not a terrorist attack. Everything was not out of control. At the time, people thought it was a terrorist incident. It made national news because people thought it was a terrorist incident. Since you think I'm heartless for not wanting all 109 people a day to be reported as breaking news then I suppose that you do want every accident leading every news story on every news thread and every newspaper across the country. 30 kids didn't die on that bus that day. It wasn't national news. I have sympathy for anyone killed in a traffic accident and their families, but I'm not going to be brought to tears 109 times a day. If you want to call that heartless, then that's your judgment. In life we have loved ones. They are called "loved ones" because they are the ones that will care enough to be brought to tears if we die in a traffic accident. Life goes on for everyone else.
