1. That cammied-up Marine in the image above (btw, always capitalize "Marine". Thank you.) is wearing his cover (not "hat") a tad lower than most Marines would.
2. Some Marines, the drill instructors, can wear their covers anyway they want because they have eyes like a fly.
3. In the field, grunts will often don "bush" covers, which are those soft lids with the wide brim all the way around. They are more comfortable and keep more rain off you.
4. Marines don't bump into things because things make sure they get out of the way.
