A good curriculum to follow can be found in "The Well Trained Mind" by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer. This format is your TRUE Western Civ curriculum, with strong emphasis on Phonetic Language, Mathematics, Science, and a chronological history of WESTERN Civilization, beginning with 'pre-history'...those of you that disagree with the anthropological version (*I* do not!) are encouraged by these authors to use those materials that fit within your beliefs/interests of science and history, but Usborne Press gets a lot of recommendations. As a degreed grad in anthropology I would never discourage learning about different cultures...there are various posts on here that have pointed out that not everyone thinks like a Westerner..., but I find multiculturalism ABHORRENT...it corrupts and fosters hatred, pitting one group against another...I describe multiculturalism the sociologists watered down version of TRUE anthropology, which seeks to study each individual culture in and of itself, suis generis...a la "Pappa Franz" to those out there who have also studied anthropology (Franz Boas studied the Alaskan cultures and was instrumental in developing and refining the anthropolggical/ethnology studies in America...the "Father of Anthropology")

Anyway, my two cents....

I appreciate that, Artist. I felt it my responsibility to speak of my experiences in the school system. Perhaps it informs a few parents out there, and just maybe it will be a catalyst into getting parents to take a more careful look at what their children are doing in school (something they should already be doing).

It's completely nausiating, but I am not stupid enough to reveal my true feelings at school. What is most disturbing is that there are but one or two students with whom I have commiserated about this--the overwhelmingly vast majority of ed majors eats this up with a spoon.

Why are you afraid to reveal your true feelings in the classroom? Are you afraid that they'll fail you because you're speaking with reason? You have to treat these people like children, for that is what they are, mentally speaking. I'm just kidding. However, what you do need to do is speak up in class, back up your responses with facts. It's not that hard. If they're too shallow to fail you for that, then I'd speak with the Dean or University board.

Secondly, are you telling me the truth that education majors eat up the multiculturalist mantra with a spoon? Do they really believe that much in the policy of division? I do know that I've seen several teachers teaching it. I've thought, how can they do that. However, are you serious?

I saw it happen in my school. I remember saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day in 2nd grade, but by 5th grade it had disappeared and every Friday we had sing-alongs. The songs? "The Answer is Blowing in the Wind," "One Tin Soldier," anti-war stuff.

It doesn't get any better at the university level. Not long ago I had to read a book on Meso-America where, of course, the Evil United Fruit Company was dwelt upon long and hard. My favorite part was where the author tells us ominously, "by 1950, the UFC had total control of Guatemala's railroads!" Only later, doing my own web-search, did I find this little interesting detail: the UFC were the ones who BUILT the railroads.

I think burnout from politics in education and lack of administration support destroys more teachers than the kids or pay scale.

Public schools are far beyond worse than useless and stupid. Their continued existence needs to be terminated forthwith. I'm only sorry that I can't be a child in one of those schools for just five minutes....the chaos and horror of politically incorrectness I'd unleash would be delicious and long overdue. To kids: if your left-wing scumbag public schools (government run moron academies) have internet access (they should because we are paying for it), read this and go wild, really wild and stand up during a class about homosexuality and fisting and say: "God bless America, and death to our enemies!". You could always paint a US flag on your face and tell the teachers to salute it. Of course the slithering, slimy, stinking left-wing jerks in public education have probably blocked all websites that refer to anything but hand wringing, chin wagging, bed wetting liberal puke.

They just said "by the 1950s, UFC had complete control of the railroads." They had already laid the groundwork of "bad UFC! Bad! Bad!" so, by the time the reader gets to sentences like that, it goes down easily as jello. Another one is "democratically elected government's attempt at land reform" (also known as communists who told the locals "vote for us and we'll take UFCs land and give it to you.")

No, I won't tip my hand because I'm going to need recommendations from these people in order to get a teaching job. I have already gotten a sterling recommendation from one prof this summer. I'm playing their game because to do otherwise would jeopardize my future.

Yes, I am sorry to say, I am telling the absolute truth. We are learning the "importance" of incorporating multicultural themes into lesson plans, a distraction and waste of time for the most part. It's way over done. Not only that, diversity in the classroom means we have to accomodate and be sensitive to all other culture's and their traditions which we might encounter in our classroom. Then there's all the ESL, (English as a Second Language), SLEP (Students with limited English proficiency), and on and on.

Do parents even bother to question their children after school about what they are learning? Do they peruse their textbooks? Do they check out the required reading list (very telling in itself)? My sister-in-law used to third degree her daughter every afternoon about what she learned, who did this or that, what did the teacher say or do, etc. Then she volunteered a couple of times a week in the school, not out of civic duty but to see what was going on. (She used to teach in the same district, so she knew what to look for.) With the knowledge she garnered, she finally made a decision to pull her daughter from the public school and send her to a Catholic school, where she also got a teaching position.
