He announced that all of his recent time off has been spent with specialists, MRI's, blood tests, etc. Says the problem is not genetic, at least not entirely, no further explanation. He's taking heaps of medication to try to reverse the effects. Apparantly the meds aren't working yet, but he's exploring all possibilities. Surgery is last resort...

Rush has acknowledged that people have complained about his voice, but that he hasn't been doing anything himself (that he's consciously aware of) to change his voice quality.
However, he just played a "Wahl" commercial that was obviously recently recorded that uses his "Thurston Howell" (in my opinion, it's closer to Walter Cronkhite impersonation) voice. Today his voice, while live (at least) sounds more like the old Rush.

LIMBAUGH'S NEW RADIO CONTRACT WORTH $285 MILLION
Part-time Palm Beacher and futime conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh renewed his contract with Clear Channel Communications Inc.'s Premiere Radio Networks through 2009, the company announced Wednesday.
The agreement is a "nine figure deal" and the highest-priced contract in the history of radio syndication, the company said in a statement. The contract is worth $285 million, including a $35 million signing bonus, sources say.

NOTE TO RUSH
WHAT DID YOU KNOW,
AND WHEN DID YOU KNOW IT?
To: uncitizen
If you are an uncitizen (whatever the hell that means) why don't you find another country to flee to? I'd be only too happy to help fund your way out of this country!

I feel now knowing Rush is suffering. He has become such an important of my daily routine. I work much better with his voice on the radio than any other. I hope to God a miracle happens and his hearing is restored
Oh, I do too. I am always a little disappointed when he has a guest host. It is sad, but it could be worse. Life doesn't last long.</p?
To: Carol-HuTex
Maybe he should knock off the cigar smoking. hope there is nothing wrong with him.
To: Mad Dawgg and all who replie to me
I am in shock. This is terrible. I guess his only help now is for us to get a prayer chain going, and ask a higher power for intervention. My heart is breaking for him.
"Talent on Loan from GOD...boy is that ever true", according to the Rush man. sw

I hope there's a spare Tomahawk to launch at any liberal making such a comment.
Prayers for El Rushbo & his family.

He said that he spent alot of time last week working with people on the technical aspects of the show. Said people are amazed that his voice sounds as good as it does. Didn't go into all the technical aspects of what they are doing, but he did say they have tried to adjust the sound of his voice for radio.

"Listening to Rush today, his voice sounds in a little higher register than in previous weeks and months. Anyone else notice?"
He sounds like the old Rush to me today. I thought he was deliberatley playing a game with his voice over the past several weeks. I thought he was using a deep tone, and speaking slower, in order to sound studious, contemplative, or something. He has done that sort of thing many times just to "get people going". At other times, he sounded like his old self ... just like today. Thats why I was SURE he was playing a game!!!
How I HATE to hear this news about his hearing!! It makes me heart-sick for him!! I hope that there will be some sort of curative action that can be taken to reverse the deafness. Many of us are, and will continue to be, praying for him.
Rush if you're reading this, please know that I am one person who doesn't want you to give up your radio show REGARDLESS of the sound of your voice!!! No one can replace you!! We NEED you!! We LOVE you!!! Some of us have been with you from the beginning! And we will still stay with you and support you no matter what!
You truly are family to many of us, and will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

I wonder if there's such a thing as near-real time voice to text conversion software, so Rush can "hear" callers and respond to them? Any Dittohead software engineers out there?
To: Tony in Hawaii
Well, there's closed-captioning on TV broadcasts. There must be a way to convert the sound of callers' voices, so he can read what they are saying.

i am the one who created my handle and am the only person who knows what it means. you aren't even close. if you have a gripe about what i said about Rush's voice, why attack my handle?

I'm not an audio engineer, but I imagine that he's using something akin to closed captioning. CC is used in live programming, so the lag time is probably minimal.

Oops, should have read just a little bit further down on the thread :)

I guess you know by now that Rush is going/is deaf. I really hope he does not give up sending out the word. We need him!
