Nothing would please me more than to be able to be there, but I can't.
You're going to have to stand in for me, my friend.
Please convey my deepest, heartfelt prayers and love to Herb's precious family---especially Belinda.
Also, give my regards and sympathy to the wonderful folks at AFT...they have experienced a huge loss too.
Please let them know that those of us out here in the trenches take increased devotion from Herb's life and example. Together we will win this fight for our posterity's future liberty and prosperity.
Safe travels to you, Frank. You are at the top of my prayer list right now as well.

Taxman said it is being called an ARSON fire ....they think someone set the fire on purpose.
Someone murdered our friend.

Thank you, EternalVigilance. My prayers are for Belinda and her family.
I will pass on all FReeper's condolences and prayers to them, and will do my best to represent the spirit and community of the FRee Republic family while I am in Houston.
I will be joined in person by many Houston FReepers, and in spirit by all of you who cannot attend.
Trust me, Belinda and her family will know that they are not alone!

Thanks for posting that. I've viewed it numerous times in the past few weeks and just watched it again. I realized something - I'm not done shedding tears....
CHIEF, your memory and passion for this country will be remembered and carried on. I salute you.
God Bless America

"Tell me this isn't true ... "It has been reported on previous threads that the incident was being investigated as arson/homicide. There was also mention of an "accelerant".
That being said, I think we should refrain from donning our typical tin-foil hats and engaging in wild speculation. IMHO, it would probably be standard investigative procedure to treat any similar fire fatality as a POTENTIAL arson/homicide until the actual evidence proves otherwise. And an "accelerant" could be accidental ignition of any highly flammable, but very common, household substance: gasoline, kerosene, rubbing alcohol, paint thinner, fingernail polish remover, etc. etc.
While such events are sadly commonplace throughout America, I find it incredible that the Chief would be intentionally murdered. Let's give the authorities ample time to thoroughly conduct their investigation before jumping to conclusions.

I truly feel none of us are done with the tears.Soon, very soon though; as all grieving processes are, we will move on to justified anger -while- we are crying. I do not think this grief/tears; as a nation will ever go away even after justice is served.

What a extraordinary, beautiful tribute...My tears flowed unashamedly at the great losses we have witnessed these past weeks, may God have mercy on the departed souls, may they rest in Peace. They are home, it is up to us to fight the good fight so that at some date in the future we too will return home triumphantly to share eternity with our true God.

As I was crying for CHIEF negotiator and for Alamo-Girl's sister, I was also crying for Old Atlanta. I loved him so much. We used to carry on in the middle of the night somethin' awful. He was so funny. I sure do miss him. Thank you for remembering him.

Thank you, YatchMan, for pinging me to the last thread. The new information explains my uneasiness in trying to figure out how somebody like the CHIEF could have become "confused". That just didn't sound right.
He was such a good person, and I stand with you in the request that an extra salute be given in my name, too. Although no one is indispensable, it sure is hard to fill the holes left by such people as he.
Thank you COB1 for doing that for us. I realize you can't give 70,000 FReepers salutes, but the one you do give will have all of our names on it!
R.I.P. Old CHIEF - you served our country well.
