Born in 1960. Wow, what a thread. I stumbled on it late last night and it brought back so many memories. My wife (1962) was wondering what I was howling about. She pulled herself away from the Star Trek 5 day marathon and we sat at the PC together and read every post. Thank you!

"I said this before in this thread, but I think maybe Hemingway's East of Eden, where he mentions the lost generation of the 1920's ( coming of age in the 1920's) might have started this.

I could be wrong though."

Could be...

Didn't Steinbeck write East of Eden?

East of Eden! I remember having to analyze that in my Film as Lit. class in HS. (It was an easy English credit... all we did was watch movies)

"Please, no Joe Namath Noxema."

Wait!

Don't you remember the one Broadway Joe did with Farrah Fawcett, where she put two big piles of shaving cream in his hand and sang...

"You get (boom boom) GREAT balls of commmmmm-fort!"

Whoopee! My cohort!

Who else remembers running home from their ultra-safe schools every afternoon to watch Dark Shadows?

I do! Especially the Barnabas/Angelique story. Yikes, I feel 11 again!

How about Shake-a-Puddin'? Never worked for me...

I remember both. Today scooters are skorts (skirt and shorts combined) and I think those little dresses were sizzlers.

thanks. There's a book out, I think it's called Stages, that follows generations in clusters through the last 150 years, and they are predictable: generations that are tested , proven and tough spawn generations that are idealistic and dreamy, who in turn spawn generations who are cynical and hyper-aware until THEY are tested by some major event. it's heavily researched and hold true time after time.

Us tweeners are in the unique place to observe the more hardened generations on either side of us, we tend to be philosophical for obvious reasons.

Interesting theory. Anybody know the book?

Believe it or not - I have a GIANT bottle right now. My sister bought it because she liked it when we were kids.. but it makes her sneeze now. Actually it's kinda nice in the hot Texas summers... very refreshing..

My scent of choice in Jr High was "Skinny dip... skinny dip.. makes a girl feel pretty.. skinny dip" Sandy Duncan was on the commercial.

Yes sizzlers!!!! how funny.. I was telling a friend of mine today how funny it is that we are from all over the country and remember a lot of the same things...

The ones that amaze me are things like the crocheted stuff.. I don't think you could buy it in our neighborhood, but everyone had a mom, aunt, or grandma that made 'em.

Remember Space Sticks, kinda like long thin tootsie rolls loaded with nutrition (went well with Tang for a complete breakfast!). What about Silly String... string shooting out of a can!
