. Along the way they formed their own bagpipe band.

That may be a legacy of the days when the Gourka Regiments were officered by the Scots(another blood-thirsty race)

I'll tell you what!! Those Gurkhas are fierce, but I say we start cross breeding Jews, Armenians and Italians together and man those towel heads will have a world of trouble on their hands.

THE GURKAS are some real bad A$$ killers they know how to make an enemy SUFFER EXTREME PAIN
I find comments like these to be chock-full of ignorance and gung-ho attitude. The Ghurkhas are superb soldiers and warriors with an indomitable reputation, but that does not make them 'bad a$$ killers', or people that make the enemy 'SUFFER EXTREME PAIN'. All I've ever heard of the Ghurkhas is that they're polite, friendly and humourous. Do you really think that the British and all those who have served with Ghurkhas would show respect and admiration for them if these people really were murderous killing machines? No.

It amazes me that people still subscribe to the stereotypical view that an excellent warrior must also be a blood-thirsty brute. Did you know that the ideal samurai was not only one who knew a hundred different ways to cut a man in two, but also one who could write poetry and appreciate the beauty of floral arrangements? It is the same idea with the Ghurkhas.

What a person IS and what a person can DO, are two entirely different things.

WRONG What a person is can also be what a person does and if you dont think gurkas are bloodthirsty in battle go f**k with one and see what happens as for trying to philosify what a person does in battle or who a person is in peacetime who really gives a shat as long as in wartime they do their duty as well as they do their job in peacetime

and THE GURKAS ARE SOME BADA$$ KILLERS

On the down side, there is a negative to using the Gurkas. As they are Hindi, their use could aggravate problems in Kashmir where Moslems and Hindi's are at it most of the time.

Good point. If I remember my Kipling (it's been thirty years). . .

She was a damsel of delicate mold
With hair like sunshine and a heart of gold
Little she knew that the arms that embraced
Had cloven a man from the brow to the waist
And little she knew that those loving lips
Had ordered a quivering life's eclipse
Or that the eyes that lit at her lightest breath
Had glared unawed in the gates of death
For these are the things that a man must hide
As a general rule from an innocent bride

And then there are loudmouths.
