As the premier conservative discussion site on the Net, we are a target for left-wing fringe-dwelling flame trolls and as a result, some of us who are otherwise quite normal are a bit cautious regarding newbies.
You just passed it. Some of us who live in more remote parts of the world will only know you through your writing. I enjoy the discussions here even though I don't agree with every opinion. Your posts are valuable, take pride in them.
I've confessed to my family's Democratic history several times on these threads. My parents were proud UAW members and both of them served on the precinct committee. Before them, all four of my grandparents came over from Europe a little over 100 years ago and worked in New York for a machine called Tammany Hall. After a few decades, both sides of the family moved to Chicago and worked for a machine called Daley.
The first presidential candidate I supported was, by some strange coincidence, named George. His last name was McGovern. Fortunately, as the Democratic Party adopted homosexual rights, the disarming of law-abiding citizens so that they can become the defenseless victims of violent crime, the right to murder unborn children for the sake of convenience, and affirmative action quotas as the cornerstones of the party platform, our entire family poured into the Republican Party. In addition to being proud UAW members, Mom and Dad were also proud NRA members and proud members of a good old-fashioned Christian church.
As a former newbie, I came to this site as a conservative, but uneducated. For example, I once thought gun control was a good idea - but I hadn't really thought why - I only listened to what the media said. I received quite an education after joining the Free Republic.
Take it easy on newbies that reply to posted articles. Think of the Free Republic as the hospital that cures sick minds.
On the other hand, I have no use for newbies who post vanities. Come to Free Republic with a sense of humility.
Doug, I feel the same way. I've got to work on easing up on this attitude around my family, though. I didn't get to choose them!
You will get along quite well here, it would appear.
[ ]yes [ ] no - Does the sight of clinton makes you want to vomit?
Oh yeah, show me the ones who aren't.Give me their names,we will make examples of them.
We are ALL Weird !
There really ought to be an intermediate stage between "newbie" and "Freeper"--something like "Freepling".
"Freeper" would seem to connote someone who freeps or has freeped. It seems to me someone ought to have participated in one or more freeps before one can be considered a true Freeper.
Thank you for the welcome, Bryan. I'll bet your father and your uncles have some interesting stories to tell! Bravery and honor must run in the family!
You told me that liberals were welcome here - I just found out that is not true. While I've refrained from the name calling that many Freepers have rained down on me apparently being a Liberal that can defend your liberal beliefs is definitely something not welcome here.
From now on you'll have to send your replies to bouncer@cpcug.net because, despite what you've been told - having a Liberal opinion here is NOT welcome. It only buys you this:
I'll miss some of the Freepers here (like you) who have an honest opinion and are willing to go back and forth. Just don't ever belive that this is a FreeRepublic, it's definitely not Free at all. To paraphrase Jack Nicholson, there are some here who "can't handle the truth" (present company excepted of course).
PWL (aka Bouncer)
P.S. - To those Freepers who requested Help looking for a job, if I have already responded to you privately via Email, I promise I'll follow up with the information you requested by tomorrow. You already have my Email address so we should be able to help you out despite this little bump in the road.
Well, ok, maybe not the three years I've been kicking around...but say two years? An extended period for those who have been banned but permitted to return? Comments? Suggestions? Jim?
