I will default to you on this one because it has been a while since I read up on that topic.

I remember the story because the majority of Tibetans viewed those people as traitors.

More than likely I would venture to say that it was in 1951 when the CCP came in, instead of 1949.

>>Plus Muslims are not contained only in that one region of China. They are all over the place. Beijing even has large Muslim communities.

Honestly, I'd say muslims tend to be violent. During the Cultural Revolution a muslim village in Yunnan province revolted against the local government because the policy of raising pigs insulted their belief. A artillery regiment from the PLA encircled the village and literally wiped it out because there was no way those soldier could get into the village. Muslims are violent and brave. The CCP and KMT both had muslim units in their armies during the civil war.

The majority of tibetans had no knowledge of the CCP and those CCP tibetans at that time, so they might not view them either as traitors or as patriots. They might simply think them as Hanized tibetans.

Re:#43

Just recently some people hung a pigs head at a Mosque in China and a BIG riot occurred. This was just a few weeks/months ago...

I don't know the details, but I saw an article on it on the web...

I would not under-estimate what the Tibetains knew. However, admittedly I need to read a lot more on that subject.

I don't the story, but if someone did it, he would be asking for death. THe Chinese government has to deal with muslim problems very carefully, especilly in muslim regions. In cities muslims tend to adapt to Han culture. They eat pork and won't tell people they are muslims. Evantually they become Hanized. The Chinese governments have been trying to dillute muslim population in muslim regions for many centuries in order to solve the muslim problem .
