Indeed. This quote will be especially difficult for the Bushophants to explain....
"It took seven years for Bill Clinton to appoint a homosexual ambassador. Now George Bush has done it in just over seven months."
That's why this thread will probably be ignored completely. Very hard to explain things such as this.

Callahan

I thought this would be more of a concern to a conservative than a libertarian, no? I'm not picking a fight, I just thought that was so, and that you were a libertarian. Sorry if I got things mixed up.

Yeah, I joined the LP. I'm also a Christian and a Southern Conservative. News like this is very disturbing no matter what "party" one is a member of..... Wouldn't you say?
To: Inspector Harry Callahan
"It's really a sign to pro-family advocates that the Bush Administration can't be trusted." Sorry, Inspector...I don't think I'll make your day by attempting to explain. But I'll give it a shot.
Can this guy do the job as ambassador to Romania? Is he a member of the military? Does his homosexuality infringe on his ability to carry out the orders of his boss, the President? If the answers are Yes, No and No, then why should it make a difference to me?
I am as pro-life as they come, and I'm not interested in "Heather has Two Mommies" being distributed to my kid(s). I can't stand Rosie O'Donnell, and the thought of special rights legislation for gays is repugnant to me. But I've worked with, for and alongside gays and lesbians without any problems. I don't agree or endorse their lifestyle, but when I want a job done, I really don't care if the person is gay or straight. My car needs a transmission seal fixed. Who cares if the mechanic is AC or DC? :) Not me. I'm glad Bush thinks the same way.

As a Bush apologist I will choose to ignore you And so it goes on threads such as these.

If the answers are Yes, No and No, then why should it make a difference to me? Because you are paying for his partner as if you believed homosexuality were the equal of Marriage.

How will Bush apologists handle this one? Bushies aren't homophobes, so it doesn't bother us.
Now if your ambassador is for man-boy love or for destroying the Boys Scouts, let me know, and then we'll have something to talk about.

I thought this would be more of a concern to a conservative than a libertarian, no? Sadly, you may have a point.

The first, James Hormel, was appointed ambassador to FijiHormel was appointed Ambassador to Luxembourg, which was viewed as a slap in the face to the predominantly Catholic country.

Thanks for clarifying. Apologies for any offence. I've only recently begun exploring the various facets of right-wing ideology, so I like to jump at any opportunity to explore and define policy. It just seemed like most libertarians were left-leaning when it came to social issues, but I see this is not the case.
Personally I seem to be a paleo-conservative, which seems to be a midpoint between libertarianism and conservatism.
To: Recovering_Democrat
I respect your opinion, but did you actually read the article? This appointment was of an activist nature.
To: Inspector Harry Callahan
How will the Bush apologists handle this one? With one exception, it looks like we're ignoring you.
