I do have a comment. Let's send the "give peace a chance emmissaries." Certainly their "sensitive" natures would impress the Taliban. /sarcasm. I hope they ALL read about these atrocities and wake up. And I say a prayer for ALL who are targeted by the evil taliban.

Can someone tell me one thing the Taliban have invented, painted, created, or brought to world other than misery?
What losers.
It's no wonder they have to threaten their women with death if they leave their homes. Who would stay with these pigs if they didn't have to?
"Loser" is such an understatement.

How 'bout, "Practice Free Speech in Afganistan!" or maybe better yet, "Go Protest in NY. I Dare 'Ya!"

This is an example of very crude propaganda. We are supposed to believe that a person who committed such unspeakable torture is now trying to set the record straight. Fishing with hand grenades...blank marriage certificates?

land owners in Kandahar were threatened that they must either ally themselves with the Taliban or lose their property. ... At first, Mr Hassani's job was to patrol the streets at night looking for thieves and signs of subversion .... state of terror spread by the Taliban was so pervasive that it began to seem as if the whole country was spying on each other .... "It is the first time in Afghanistan's history that the lower classes are governing and by force. .... The country is starving .... Why is it that the more I read about this the harder time I have distinguishing it from communism?

Your post sounds more like propaganda than does anything in the article.

Grenades might survive in water a couple of seconds, blow up, presto - a bunch of fish float to the top. Sounds possible.

Fishing with hand grenades...blank marriage certificates? The temporary marriage licenses have been reported several times. They can soothe their conscious for raping, then often killing girls and women, in the worst fashion.

Good ol' boys have been fishing with dynamite for a long time now. Less shrapnel than grenades, and the blast pulverises their little bones into soft goo. Or so I've heard....

Saving his own hide? The worst ones always flee, leaving their underlings to pick up their mess.

After Kandahar, he was put in charge of secret police cells in the towns of Ghazni and then Herat. In other words this guy was very good at torture and displayed much enthusiasm for the job. Now for some reason he wants to set the record straight, tell the whole world what a vicious monster he was. Now he is a family man, leading a simple life we his wife and kid.

Re #7 He may be an opportunist who figured out which way the wind blows. As for fishing with grenades, that can be quite possible in war-ravaged area. People may not have a taste for seducing a dumb fish into a hook. Besides, they have no gaming laws.

Fishing with hand grenades...blank marriage certificates?I don't have a hard time believing that. In both cases they're unskilled but effective. I was curious about this guy's finesse with the English language but then I realized those instances were not direct quotes.

From other accounts I have read since 1996, this does not seem too far fetched. There are many of these horrid stories.
