Well, its good enough for me, and I'll stick to it, thanks all the same.Modern vs Barbarian.I'm modern, they are barbarian.
To: habs4ever
Modernism is a false god. You may not know what this implies, but it's time you learned.
Do you truly suppose that Islam would be tamed and tolerable if it only embraced vaccination, indoor plumbing, and MTV? Do you truly suppose that humanity is infinitely perfectible through its own, unaided effort, and that human ingenuity can overcome the problem of evil? If you truly believe that the opposite of barbarity is modernity (as opposed to civilization), you've been utterly coopted by the secular myth of progress.

Yup, that's why I am conservative, uh huh...I adore secularism, believe in the perfectability of mankind, the wonderful endless march of progress, blah blah.I know the stakes involved, and you have me confused with someone that doesn't.Sorry, I've been off the turnip truck for a long time,so no need to be pedantic here when you're talking to a fellow traveller. This is a Manichean struggle, and it is for the only world, the modern one, that I currently inhabit.

If we bomb one Islamic nation, does WW III start against all of them? Some think so. What do Freepers think?
To: habs4ever
Fine. Then just give up your worship of "modernity." That shouldn't be so hard for you.

Goodness, you like to put words in my mouth. You've lost me, Captain Ahab, for I detect a sermon with fire and brimstone is waiting to be unleashed upon me.I plan to fight for the life I have, and if its too modern for you, well, you don't have to join in.
I happen to like advances made in the sciences, or material comforts that I can earn from the sweat of my labours. And, I make no apologies for liking it so.But, I don't worship it.I appreciate it, but what has that to do with the struggle ahead vs Islam? Whatever point you are trying to make with me has long sailed over my head.I say potato, you say potato...blah blah

The president has warned us to not expect a great deal of detailed news regarding these efforts foreign or domesticmore because some of the methods employed must remain outside of public discussion than to hide the successes and failures. This is fine with me. I don't care, when they catch these bastards, what they do with them. I think that if it's kept quiet, there will be less for the other scumbags that are left to rally around. Unfortunately, I don't think that it will happen that way. In this war, I would prefer covert operations with no publicity.
Good job!

This is ugly. If somebody neglects to close an italic tag, not only does it get through, but any attempts by subsequent posts to close the tag are filtered out

A few changes have been made to the forum over the past couple days.
All replies, and for consistency all articles, are now wrapped in HTML
s. This indents the text on both left and right margins. It should no longer be possible to convincingly spoof replies.

There is some sort of bug in Netscape that carries over some combination of tags despite my filter's best efforts to close them. I'm still trying to figure out where Netscape's bug is so that I can write a work-around.

Tell me to stop before the third in this series, if this is too dry, folks! No way, Marvin. Keep it coming -- your analyses are thought-provoking, informative, and focus our attention on substance. Be back later. best, bb.

What I don't understand is, that despite this totalitarianism and intolerance, the leftists, who claim to despise those approaches, are so quick to defend the islamists agains "western culture". If you consider that to liberals, "western culture" means "capitalism"... and consider communism and socialism to be the enemies of capitalism, and then further consider communism and socialism to be religions of a sort, you'll start seeing the pattern that I'm pretty sure I'm seeing.
In other words, there is capitalism, and there are the systems that either seek to mitigate it or destroy it. Christianity can be seen as a mitigator: through charity and altruism, some wealth is voluntarily redistributed. MODERATE Islam can also be useful for this. Through com/soc programs, the wealth can be ... shall we say... involuntarily redistributed. But either way, these systems seem to stand in relation to capitalism in a similar fashion... that's how I'm seeing this.

You see it quite clearly ... the added complication is the injection of rligion, murdering in the name of allah. very nasty twist to a totalitarian mindset, excuses all sorts of crimes against humankind, don'tcha think?
[BTW, A, it's nice to be on the same side for a change!]
