Thanks. People do need to see this.
I am fairly familiar with the area, though I wasn't in Lower Manhattan very often; and what's most disturbing in the television footage is that I can't find a single point of reference. I can't orient myself to north-south, east-west, or anything. But there are a few pictures that include the Hudson River, so now I at least know the direction I am looking in. And in those pictures I see that the Marriot WTC, which has been described as "irreparably damaged" until now, has in fact completely disappeared. There's nothing at all left of that hotel. It was pulverized by the falling towers, I suppose. Unless the wreckage has already been cleared, which seems unlikely.
I was in that hotel daily from August 17-19, at a convention for a certain cult TV show. The Marriott was booked solid, as was the Marriot World Financial across the street (at the other end of the damaged pedestrian bridge). New York was wall-to-wall tourists that week and Lower Manhattan was busier than I've ever seen it. I cannot believe that the entire area is now GONE.

Those red stains are probably not what you think - it turns darker and eventually almost brown after about 3-4 hours. A lot darker than the movies.

OH MY GOD!!!!!

WOW. And there are actually people who don't think we're at war???

I thought it was probably rust from exposure to the recent rains, but just wasn't certain. ty!

You may have already seen photos of this or seen it in person but in case you haven't, these give a very strong sense (beyond what TV can do) of how much destruction the terrorists inflicted.

Actually, the closest I've gotten to there was the other night on the way to the subway when I had to go about a block away. Lots and lots of gawkers were there, so I didn't see too much, but then again I didn't go out of my way to look. I am thinking about going down later, but I'm worried about the ban on cameras and don't want to risk my digital camera being confiscated.

I'm bumping this today as a memorial, because 4 World Trade Center was demolished yesterday. The building where these photos were taken is no more. Please thank your friend's coworker for taking these--it seems the building was more dangerous to be in than he may have thought at the time.
I'm also going to link this to a few other threads. I think as many people as possible should see these.

To try to wrap my mind around the number of dead I am counting out dried beans one for each person dead. The number is just so stagering that it is hard to imagine.

You need to come look at these pictures.
Thanks again to the poster of this thread. This is beyond words.

I'm so afraid that Ashcroft's obsession with due process and Powell's obsession with coalition building is going to keep us from really really hurting the people who are behind this. The one element of the conservative "domestic agenda" that I want pushed and pushed hard is the development of domestic oil. Nuke the damn bears in Alaska... who cares about them when this happened because we have to tippietoe all around the idiots running the middle east!!!!... there, I feel a little bit better. I had to go to a party last night which was salted with old hippies, merry prankster types, a woman who has had five abortions, long haired maggot infested a//holes. sorry. But, I brought the band and my incredible "killer salad" .. hehe. all they brought was BO and humus.

I can't even begin to imagine the stench now. The workers at that scene are truly heros in my book.

Thanks, BG. These pictures are beyond words. Did not think there were any tears left, but here they come again.

These pictures give you a very realistic view. Someone on this thread said it, the pix from the media are very antiseptic. Tonight on MSNBC Headliners & Legends they showed live footage from the ground. The most powerful I have seen, other than watching the planes crash and towers collapse live on tv.
They do rerun Headliners & Legends at 4 am est, so if any of you are insomniacs or can actually program the VCR, and want to get a more realistic view, you should try to see this show. You can see the devastation at ground level.

To them, the death toll is just a number, like the number of floors in the World Trade Center Twin Towers. Collateral damage. When I see "them" on the media my blood presure kicks up 35 points. They are no better than the terrorists as they have become an immage of pure evil. Evil of pusillanimity. Shame on the media for giving these jellyfish any air time. The ironic thing is Ben Laden would take them out just quick as any other American, if you could call them that. Lower lifeform Notrh American Continent dwelers is a beteer term. Shamefull people, indeed.
