>>>about Jack Paar <<<

I was knee-high then, but on some retro show they went over his stint with ripping the tags off of mattresses and pillows (changed the industry!)

Also, Steve Allen. THAT was class. I heard him on a radio interview around 1996-ish ... very conservative.
Which is probably why we didn't hear much from him in the latter days.

Steve Allen was generally supportive of liberal causes, anti-nuclear, anti-war, but pro (his version) family values. Johnny Carson was usually a Democratic fund raiser (I seem to remember.) Neither let their politics interfere with their shows.

Thank you for the reminder to them, but sometimes a little levity has to be injected to keep people going.

Be careful. There are many who post here who believe that we violate a liberal comedian's First Amendment rights if we fail to laugh at his jokes and cease to pay him big bucks to insult us and to be as rude, crude, and irrelevant as he wants to be.

Well, perhaps that is so. I never heard enough of Steve Allens personal opinions, other than that 96-ish radio show to say which one of us is correct.

He was absolutely disgusted with Hollywierd, the sewer pit it has turned into. He was enraged with the 'education' system and the political correctness (brainwashing I think he called it) and the "functioning illiterates" it has produced (that term I remember!).

He said something to the effect that his views had changed over the years. That, and the fact he got little or no "airtime" in his waning years leads me to think his opinion was not wanted in the LA crowd et al. Sometimes the quiet brings more knowledge than the babble.

Again, I'll keep an open mind about him, but he did have talent.

entertainers

I agree - I use to really be interested in their lives, their opinions and all of it. Some I thought were beautiful and some were my heroes.

Not anymore. I have lost all interest in them. I don't know why or when it changed but now all I see are no moral airheads who live and entertain with filth. So many of them base their appeal on pushing the envelope but it has been pushed so far, they are only leading to pornography as a career.

Such a void in my life - I use to go to the movies and at least rent one every Fri. I even quit that since too many times my stomach actually turned watching the movie. It was no longer entertainment - merely trash.

The movie industry giants have shot themselves in the foot with the drug culture ruining the talent and the liberalism/socialism they teach and preach. Lately I've noticed that many of the videos don't even make sense. They are just churned out to provide the renters more movies. Again, they made the mistake of thinking people wouldn't notice if a storyline was thrown together with big holes in it.

The transcript shows that Leno added, "We've done our share of Bush jokes, but people rise to the occasion." I think you had it right.
