Just as a footnote. The LUSITANIA was transporting munitions, it apparently was basically a transport vessel maquerading as a liner, as was a sister ship in the Cunard (?) line. Whether or not you agree with the historical accuracy of those assertions, it is documentable fact that the German embassy attempted to publish a paid advertisement in 50 of the leading U.S. newspapers warning Americans not to travel on those liners because they were believed to carry munitions and would be U-boat targets. The U.S. State Department contacted the papers and asked them not to publish the ad. All but one (A St. Louis paper, I believe) complied. In what may have been his finest hour, William Jennings Bryan resigned his cabinet post in protest of the Wilson administration's action in this matter. It is further alleged [please note the qualification] that the British government, specifically W. Churchill, ordered the Lusitania, on its final voyage, to proceed without escort through known submarine infested waters.

"Sure, the adults are in charge now - but what happens after things calm down and the Media goes back to supporting a bunch of Socialists and the next thing you know Hillary and Schumer are President and VP? Do you really think they can be trusted with more power? I don't.

Ahhh! A breath of reason as last..........

Yeah, well I haven't been totally pacifist in my upset either, so some of my posts have been a little over the top. The point however seems to be the discussion of issues surounding the state of our country, the actions of our leaders, and the deeper reasoning to determine that the decisions being made are in our and our country's best interests. So much has happened and is happening. People are upset. The news is predominating on war and possible threats to our national security at home. People are upset and on edge. The issue of the stock market collapse seems distant and somewhat trivial compared to people's sense of survival, yet pieces that I read make me wonder about the interconnectedness of this whole shebang.

Are there other unidentified players in this drama?

Excellent post! Lew Rockwell is genius! Pure genius! Unfortunately most Americans are too dumbed down to appreciate the historical analysis and would rather respond John Wayne style to any problems we face.

Fact: We got into WWI when German torpedo sunk Lusitania which was carrying munitions to Britain along with 1200 passengers. Germans took out ads in American newspapers warning us not to board this ship. Brits allowed these Americans to be sacrificed to get us in the war.

Result: More government control and one world League of Nations.

Fact: We got into WWII when we embargoed Japan's oil imports(act of war) and left our fleet as sitting ducks for the Japs to attack in Pearl Harbor. Common knowledge that FDR wanted us in the war and was willing to sacrifice these sailors for his Socialist New World order.

Result: the United Nations and half of the world turned over to commies in Europe and Asia.

My shallow thinking American friends need to rethink knee jerk reactions to government propaganda ie. Hugh Hewitt and his Neo Conservative cadre

No, I do not. I equate the loonies on both extremes of the spectrum. The tin foil libertarians are as bad as the left wing socialist anti-Amrerican extremists. Both are going to hurt the government's cause in this war for their own agendas. The difference is is that I agree with much of the middle of the road libertarian policies and stances even though the party has become somewhat of a hollow shell.

We are the apparent majority who disagree with you.

The same majority who support socialistic policies and abortion? No Thanks

I'll bump it. I've been pretty dismayed by some of the idiotic, knee-jerk responses I've read here to ANYTHING that smacks even remotely of criticism of the "nuke'em-all-and-let-God-sort-it-out" mentality. The "100% or nothing" crowd really needs to get a grip.

Note: By "100% or nothing" I'm referring to the attitude of those who take the position that, "you either agree with me totally or you're the enemy." With that kind of attitude, it's no wonder that the libs outflank us.

Leaving aside conspiracy theories, I merely approach this from the view that it would have been better for the world to have both hostiles exhust themselves rather than one clear victor dictating terms.

"We are at war and like the man said, you are either with US or with them. Which will it be?"

Define us. Define them.

What do i say now? I say that the folks at LewRockwell.com have appeared to hit the nail squarely on the head.

Now, are you going to froth at the mouth and call me traitor or other such nonsense?

Well said, but don't forget the OIL.

Of course it was the oil.
But the play acting, pragmatism, or expediency, whatever we wish to call it has exacted a horrible price.

High enough(?) now to abandon it?

"Excellent contributors" like Demidog, who advocated the right to possess child pornography?

Just like sinkspur to falsely accuse someone of advocating child pornography. This is taking it way out of the realm of reasonable discourse. That post should be pulled.

Sinkspur is plainly a liar.

Agree or disagree, Sinkspur, their writings were always far more interesting than yours.

Interesting, yes.

In touch with reality? Hardly.

Unless, like Rivero, you thought JFK Jr.'s plane was brought down by a bomb under the wing.

Or, like Demidog, you advocate that America ought to be made safe for child pornographers.

If Congress and the Senate would actually declare war, I'd cut the gub'mint some slack.

Congress and the Senate?
Did the Senate Secede?

Seriously, this will never happen for the simple reason that if an official Declaration of War is made, a good chunk of our Congress would be prosecutable for Treason and Sedition.

While I would love to see that, they may be ignorant, but they're not stupid.
They would vote themselves into a corner?
