If the Phone Don't Ring, Baby, You'll Know It's Me.

I generally despise country music, but if this is the same one I've heard (on non-country radio), it's one of my favorites.

Well, I like all kinds of music but I have some people who are big fans of country music and that, if it's true is sure going to be news to them.

from David Allan Coe's "One More Time"

One more time, I'd like to slip my p_____r in you
Even if it's just a quickie, I won't mind
No I won't get your new white dress dirty, baby
I'd just like to f__k you one more time.
heaven knows, that you've been a good daughter, baby
And I'd just like to f__k you one more time.
Lord I love it when you call me Daddy
And I'd just like to f__k you one more time

The only version I've ever heard is Jimmy Buffett's If The Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me on his Last Mango in Paris album.

I suspect it has more to do with what the parents listen to.

Shelby Singleton, one of Nashville's most successful Producers in the late '60's & '70's, was once asked in an interview why, from out of all the eager young talent available then, he chose to produce David Allan Coe.

His response ... "Because David Allan Coe is the kind of guy who is willing to do ANYTHING to become successful."

IMO, the guy has always lacked a moral compass, as evidenced by his body of work.

A friend of mine here in the humble burg in which I live (Amarillo), used to work at a music store. He's told me this story before of D A Coe coming to play here one night. He stopped off at said music store, and while I don't remember all of the details, he got all upset over something, fired his whole band, I believe, then had to have a guy at the store help him program all the keyboard parts back into his keyboards. Was a real prick, evidently.

Well my response to him is a line from a newer country song...

"Kiss this...and I don't mean on my ruby red lips!"

Your walking on the fightin' side of me
Runnin' down a way of life our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it leave it let this song that I'm singin' be a warnin'
When your runnin' down our country man your walking on the fightin' side of me.

To all you country music bashers "I Am Proud To Be An American" is a country song.
