Also, there is a "Star Tribute" I guess this Friday on all the major networks ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX(?)to include E and MTV. Some of us are betting they won't have a live feed from the President, or even a taped one. But then some mention they bet Bill Clinton will be there. Anyone want to take bets on that one?? I will.. Bill Clinton will be THE guest of honor!!!! He doesn't have the grace to step aside and let President Bush be the Commander in Chief. He and Hollywood think he is STILL the President. Sad.. very sad. At least the Military are happy, and right now thats what counts!!
Of course Letterman was talking about himself when he said the bit about pretending to be courageous. That much is obvious if you try not to bring preconceived notions to the table.
I honestly do NOT think that David Letterman intended to slight Bush when he gave this talk. I think the man sincerely wanted to say what he felt about Rudy and that's the end of it.
If others choose to read secret codes into what he did NOT say, then have at it.
But I have to say that I agree with every word Dave said about Rudy. The man is real.
Did you watch the Philbin interview? If so, please explain this:
(accurate paraphrase)
Philbin: Well at least Bush seems to be going about this the right way ...
Letterman (interrupting): So Regis tell us about how you first met Joey Bishop.
If you think this was not an attempt to drop the subject -- President Bush --which Philbin, ever the polite guest, did then I invite you to present another explanation.
Letterman by his facial expression made it plain that he didn't dare speak his mind about Bush. He's made it clear over many months that he considers Bush a lame-brain incompetent.
Letterman said it was important to even 'pretend' one is courageous. He didn't have the decency to 'pretend' he supported the commander-in-chief.
I commend to you Andrew Sullivan's request to Bush's critics to get behind our President. Perhaps Letterman should read it too: SULLIVAN LINK
I saw it live and I kept waiting for the *Boy, have we under-estimated W* line, which never came.
Thanks for saying that.
Some of us do pay attention.
I didn't watch all of his shows so I await correction of my opinion as posted above.
I'll tell you about a thing that happened last night. There's a town in Montana by the name of Choteau. It's about a hundred miles south of the Canadian border. And I know a little something about this town. It's 1,600 people. 1,600 people. And it's an ag-business community, which means farming and ranching. And Montana's been in the middle of a drought for... I don't know... three years? And if you've got no rain, you can't grow anything. And if you can't grow anything, you can't farm, and if you can't grow anything, you can't ranch, because the cattle don't have anything to eat, and that's the way life is in a small town. 1,600 people.
Last night at the high school auditorium in Choteau, Montana, they had a rally, home of the Bulldogs, by the way... they had a rally for New York City. And not just a rally for New York City, but a rally to raise money... to raise money for New York City. And if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about the... the spirit of the United States, then I can't help you. I'm sorry.
