Patience that disguises passivity is no virtue. Terrorists and those who harbor them will not be persuaded by empathy and reason. Our response must be force, soon and spectacular, directed at the terrorists who worked this outrage and upon the country that gave them safehaven. Simultaneously, we should reach out to Muslims everywhere, making our respect and intentions plain, that Islam is not the enemy -- terrorists are the enemy. We must make clear that this evil imperiling our land and liberties will be ripped out and destroyed root and branch -- with the help of right-hearted Muslims preferably, without it if necessary. Our government is doing the latter; we await the former.

bring them to the Truth. No-one has ever been brought to Jesus by force. That is an unholy and black fire in your gut.

Somehow I doubt very seriously that a totally decadent, materialistic U.S. who aborts 1.2 million of its own each year, is eradicating Christianity (ONLY) from the public square and who has just confirmed with Federal Funding that all men ARE NOT created equal is in any position to pretend it's Christian or equal to converting others to whatever perverted "Christian" ethic is supposedly lives by. The United States is still one of the most Christian countries in the world. I am not at all sure that you are correct when you say than militant Islamicists are not representative of the true Islam. There are many scholars who would not agree with you.

Ann's got it right in pinning a bulls-eye on the Muslim problem. "The Muslim problem," you say. Right.
Are you using slightly modified Hitlerian rhetoric to prove a point, or does it just come to you naturally?

Agreed...the repsonse needs to be spectacular. And I have every reason to believe that it will be. I personally wouldn't be adverse to using a very small tactical nuke to dig bin Laden out if we happen to have firm intel that he is hiding of from the light of our justice in some cave in a remote part of Afganistan. It would save lives of our soldiers...and it would be a spectacular statement.
That said, I firmly believe there is much to be said about having this act of retibution sanctioned by as many religious leaders in the Muslim world as possible. If we are successful in this regard, I believe it will be more devasting to the fundamentalism promoted by bin Laden than a nuclear blast.

Wish I could claim credit, but it's OWK's.

I am not at all sure that you are correct when you say than militant Islamicists are not representative of the true Islam As a Catholic, I might not disagree with them as vociferously as you think. Islam's very materialistic -- heaven is a seraglio -- bent does indeed result in some unfortunate errors of ideology and ensuing violent spread of Islam.
While we may have plenty of Christian folk in the United States, ours is a top-down Culture of Death and "Western Materialism" about which there is nothing particularly Christian IMHO.
It's unfortunate this tragedy comes on the heels of Bush's confirming with federal funding that we no longer perceive all men as having been CREATED EQUAL.
I warned folks that would tear it for me ... confirm in no uncertain terms -- even those backed up by some personal interpretation of Twisted Scripture -- that we have abandoned entirely the self-evident and patently Christian truths on which this nation was founded.

Given the very weak (if at all) interest in proselytizing among Jews (whose Jewish identity passes through the mother, if I'm not mistaken)... you would think they would be delighted if Christianity would convert Islam to the Judeo-Christian sensibility and thereby disabuse many of the mistruths which have allowed militant atheists to pretend they are "radical Islamic fundamentalists" when -- in fact -- they've nothing to do with faithful Muslims. Not if they, the Jews, see themselves as being forced to convert to Christianity next (at sword point).

We CAN'T convert anyone. That's God's job. We just have to be willing to speak to those that God puts across our path. Having led some people to the Lord, it's very, very easy when God prepares their hearts beforehand. So, not to worry. Let God do His job and ours will be very easy to perform.

You know the Rules, Ann Coulter threads must contain pictures.
To: Heuristic Hiker
Er, I think Ann was just being a little hyperbolic. Some people are so literal-minded. Her point is that we must stop trying to empathise with these people; rather, we should conceptualize them as savages who need to have the sh*t kicked out of them. Can't argue with that.

I agree with post #22. I am focusing more on what the Qu ran says, which I find to be everything opposite of the loving God I know. :)

There's lots in Gen-Numbers that could be taken out of context and used to show
that Judeo-Christianity is a violent religion.
But it would be wrong, too.
I finished the Qu'ran this past spring. Actually pretty nice. Reads a lot like the Psalms,
for the most part, and incorporates much of the Bible.

Exodus 21:17: And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
Or this from Numbers, where under God's direction, Moses' army defeats the Midianites. (Moses was considered something of an important and glorious man, from what I understand.)
They kill all the adult males, but take the women and children captive. When Moses learns that they left some live, he angrily says: "Have you saved all the women alive? Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." So they went back and did as Moses (and presumably God) instructed, killing everyone except for the virgins. In this way they got 32,000 virgins [Even God gets some of the booty -- including the virgins. (31:28-29)] 31:1-54 28-29
Now, taken out of context, that doesn't look too good does it?
