Thanks... from his statement from the South Lawn this afternoon......
Q Mr. President, would you confirm what the Vice President said this morning, that at one point during this crisis you gave an order to shoot down any civilian airliner that approached the Capitol? Was that a difficult decision to make?
THE PRESIDENT: I gave our military the orders necessary to protect Americans, do whatever it would take to protect Americans. And of course that's difficult. Never did anybody's thought process about how to protect America did we ever think that the evil-doers would fly not one, but four commercial aircraft into precious U.S. targets - never. And so, obviously, when I was told what was taking place, when I was informed that an unidentified aircraft was headed to the heart of the capital, I was concerned. I wasn't concerned about my decision; I was more concerned about the lives of innocent Americans. I had realized there on the ground in Florida we were under attack. But never did I dream we would have been under attack this way.
That's why I say to the American people we've never seen this kind of evil before. But the evil-doers have never seen the American people in action before, either - and they're about to find out.
Thank you all very much.

Wonderful profile of our "Adult" President. Sort of proves that character really does matter after all.......

When Bush came to "Ground Zero" in New York I was reminded of Eisenhower talking to the airborne units who were about to be dropped behind Normandy beachhead on June 6, 1944. Bush is the real deal. Thank god that Al Gore is not president. I think Albert might be making statements about the pollution caused by the collapse of the WTC instead of initiating a war for the survival of our way of life.

Clinton in the crucible:
"How long until the plane reaches Washington? 25 minutes??
"Hello, ABC News? Get me Stephanopoulos..."
"Steffy? Bill. Listen, can you get a focus group together in say, twenty minutes?"

"It was the most wrenching decision of the most wrenching day of George W. Bush's life.Then---He picked up a bullhorn, slung his arm around one rescue worker and spoke to the othersand to the worldwith a grace that was both convincing and, somehow, unmistakably American.
"The people who knocked down these buildings," he said, "are going to hear all of us soon." He didn't insist that he was resolute. He didn't have to. "

Well, there were a couple of swipes in there, but overall, for TIME, this was unusually pro-Bush. Maybe they are afraid of the criticism certain smarmy individuals have made about Bush's TV presence etc.
I was particularly struck by the statement: But now, in briefings, aides say, the President is more curious and hungry for information than ever. He takes the time to understand the processes of airport security and intelligence gathering instead of racing to the decision line of the memos set before him.
Didn't we hear, all through the election and afterwards, about Bush's "lack of curiosity" etc.?
I hope the crow comes with a palatable side dish.

Excellent article, comforting and very inspiring. This is just what we need to see. This is a president who will not have to be looking high and low to find a legacy. These are the defining moments upon which his legacy will be built and I believe that his leadership through this time will define him as perhaps the greatest wartime president in history, for none other had to fight an invisible enemy.

You just know this is killing the media. They watch this guy grow into a major world presence and can't say a g.d. thing about it. Even minor nitpicking is almost apologized for. How tragic that it takes the lives of 1000s of people for them to stop the lies and turn into Americans. What do they say about a conservative being a mugged liberal? Well, liberal New York just got the biggest mugging in human history.
There are more critics here than in the major media.

"Thank god that Al Gore is not president."Amen.

Faint praise, hedging, but a big step for the liberal media.
Bump.

Great post again, deport. No person should ever have to make the decisions they had to make,
so none should be able to judge them accept the Lord.
But it happens, and the experience, and wisdom of the people he surrounded himself with
became more valuable than he ever imagined and i thank God they are there.

Not exactly related, but I just noticed this morning that last week's cover of Time, dated September 10, 2001, was a photo of Colin Powell, with the headline "Where Has He Gone?"
Time is better than Newsweek, but it's no friend of conservatives.

You have to read between the lines of "Slime." They did get in their usual leftist licks against the President, this time they were a tad more subtle. I hate Time, their policies and politics (dumocrap to the core--even celebrating the Clinton/Gore reconciliation, as if we cared that it happened).
