Good post. These are some of the factors I have been wondering about..."How large has bin Laden's network grown?, etc."
Part of the way to solve this problem also will be the willingness of countries around the world to root out these 3000 or so terrorist in his network. Much of this question will turn on the influence of the West in countries such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, The Emirates and other principalities which may find themselves in better stead to remain allied with us if they wish to maintain their status quo.

This was the start of the "kinder and gentler" period that had gotten us to the incompetent Clinton period...now on to do battle and pick up the pieces.

Thanks for posting this - Georgie Anne is one of my favorite writers. Her combination of geopolitical, economic, and historical sense make for some insightful journalistic output.

Yes. It's a shame she doesn't have wider distribution.

It does go back to the 7th century A.D. The Frankish King Charles Martel defeated the Muslim invaders in Tours, France in 731 or so. This problem has been around for a long time. If you take into account the pre-Islamic Philistines and Babylonians of antiquity, even longer.

I'm starting to wonder if Georgie Anne is finally waking up? She's been one of the most reliable shills for bin Laden's European henchmen, the Bosnian Muslims and the KLA.

This is by far, the best article depicting our present situation. Georgie Anne Guyer has always been one to respect regarding her knowledge of the Arab world. I hope our President and his warriers read this.

Second, he has his "soldiers" all over the capitals of Europe, from which they have launched, or tried to launch, countless attacks against Western targets, Courtesy of the West:Bin Laden's Balkan Connections

When Westerners again learn to associate islam with secret assassins, that will spell the end of islam in the West.
When it finally sinks in in the West that there is NO WAY to tell which two of the 100 local "moderate" moslems are suicide bombers, the 100 will all have to go.
Eventually all mosques will be seen as "Trojan Horses", thanks to these insane death cultists.
Quick, tell me three pivotal events which happened in Spain in 1492.

"It is equally a struggle with groups such as the primitive ruling Islamic Taliban in Afghanistan, which totally rejects the traditional Islam represented by authorities such as those at Al Azhar University in Cairo, and seeks to create its own separate Islam, childlike in its theological primitiveness and regressiveness -- and just as cruel."
Bull hockey! First of all, Egypt is home to one of the most fundamental groups of Islam going, "Islamic Jihad" which had its 15 minutes of fame when it was killing western tourists a few years ago.
Secondly, check out this thread to see what "traditional Islam" represents.

- Colombus discovered America.
- The last of the Moors were driven out of Spain and
- Something else of historical significance happened. ;)

I agree. This goes all the way back to the 8th century when the Moslems were turned back at Tours in 732. They were on the rise up to that point. They were about to conquer (no doubt "civilize" to their thinking) Europe when Charles Martel defeated them. They've been in a slow, steady decline ever since. On the contrary, the decendents of those they saw as barbarians have gone on to dominate the planet. They see that position of power as rightfully belonging to them. And they see the US as the ultimate symbol of that lost glory. Those that argue that our policy towards Israel sparked this haven't an understanding of history. This goes back much further than 1948.

The three pivotal events that happened in Spain in 1492 were the final defeat of the Moors, the launching of Colombus Voyage, and the major empowerment of the Holy Office of Inquisition.
I note that the defeat of the Moors led to the latter two events.
