Our response must be such that a goldfish could remember it for 1,000 years.
The gloves are off, no Marquis of Queensbury rules.

Defoliate the poppy fields, cut off their access to the banking system, keep them moving. Kick them out of the west. They cannot harm anyone living in their own hell hole. There is no national need in Europe or the USA to accept one more afghan 'refugee.'

FYI
To: Pokey78
We and the world have not focused on one part of our own history which may be instructive.
We are not proud of it, but in the second half of the 1800's, the US military fought a group of foes, on extremely hostile land, and ultimately defeated them completely.
Those foes had charasmatic leaders, knew the land better than the US military, and were as well armed by comparison, as the militants in this current conflict. They had beliefs we did not understand. Their intelligence system was in every way equal to that of the US military of the time. The conflict lasted for 10 to 20 years, depending on how one measures the start and finish points.
The descendants of those old-time foes are now members of the current US forces and serve with distinction.
The conflict, of course, was the Indian Wars of the West and South West. The environment was every bit as hostile as Afganastan. The Tribes had great leaders; charasmatic, skillful, brave. They were fighting for their way of life. Their warriors were as ruthless as any on earth, but ultimately they lost. They lost because the US military deprived them and their people every means of support. Eventyally they were left with nothing to eat, no way to defend themselves, no shelter from the cold.
Today's militants have foolishly decided to take on the victors of that previous conflict. They are about to learn that history does repeat.

Ping. This is the best article I could find that defines what our winning mindset should be. I suggest you read it carefully, line by line.
