Very well thought out and reasoned response you have there. When you are done acting like a two year old, you may want to reconsider just how high of a price of freedom you are willing to pay for security that will never come anyway. Before you answer though, your ways would not just effect you, they will also effect me and my children. I take that very seriously.

America was built on the Bill of Rights and the Constitution not on restricted Liberty. Free people fight the hardest!

An excellent article. This is the great fear, that America as we know it will be destroy in an illusory attempt at finding security at the expense of liberty. I too noted that the OldDominantLiberalMedia immediatly started telling us that we would have to give up liberties. What nonsense. We need only stop the failed policy of Victim Compliance, and we win.

Salvation in the State?
Pay attention. You fought two world wars without corrupting yourself into a full tyranny. The British endured thousands of missile attacks on their cities, and did not become a tyranny. You suffer one attack and are ready for the gulag! Here is the word of the Lord from Jerusalem for today. Pay attention.
States will have to constantly enlarge their police force, yet terrorism will continue to hit rich and poor alike. Every third citizen will have to become a policeman in order to protect the people and their homes. At every intersection there will have to be security guards checking bags and clothes to make sure
that no one is carrying a bomb or various poisons.
The democratic states will be unable to continue living lives of freedom and prosperity, as people will, out of necessity, give their support to various dictators who will promise security for their lives and property.
By then it will be too late they will lose their freedom, but they will not gain security.
Then, instead of Torah will go forth from Zion, the word of God from Jerusalem, terror, murder and mourning will go forth from Palestine.
All of this will come to pass because the Western leaders failed to distinguish between the righteous and the evil in the Israeli struggle against the Palestinian Authority.

The Trade Center and the Pentagon were hit for symbolic reasons. The scum dancing around the streets are responding to this symbolism. We need a symbolic response.
I ask myself what the Romans would have done in a situation like this. When they finished off Carthage at the battle of Zama, they killed 450 thousand of the half million inhabitants, sold the 50 thousand remaining into slavery in the far corners of the world, and sowed the fields of Carthage with salt so nothing would ever grow there again.
Our response MUST be as symbolically memorable to the Arab world, or these attacks will continue. Our response must be calculated not only for retribution (which is very necessary) but also to deter any future action. So what to do.
First, stop all foreign aid to every Arab country (and maybe give it to Israel instead!). Kick every Palestinian out of Israel (and every non-citizen Arab out of the U.S. -- Let the Supreme Court find this to be illegal five years from now after they are all gone).
Second, bomb every known terrorist base, training center, etc. that American intelligence knows about, but that we haven't bombed to date because we might offend the international community.
Third, send a couple of cruise missiles into crowds of celebratory arabs in Middle Eastern Capitals.
Fourth, NUKE all arab military targets worldwide. Maybe NUKE their airports as well. If they can't use modern aviation responsibly, they shouldn't be allowed to fly at all.
Fifth, if you really want to make a statement that will stop all of this bullshit once and for all...
NUKE Mecca. Trust me, this shit would end.

Why, given the vast expenditures on our military, intelligence, and law enforcement bodies, was there no warning about todays attack? Because we have virtually zero human intelligence inside the various PLO splinter groups. Neither do the Isrealis, and they've been fighting them longer.

It seems to me America would solve a lot of our security problems by sending home many of the militant Islamic students and others here on visas who call for the destruction of our constitution and freedoms. It seems to me we have become a country that also harbors terrorists.

It is that very freedom; to enjoy the ability to
denounce our own government, that we have fought so
many wars to preserve.
You have totally missed the point of the editorial.
Too, too many voices are shouting for the trading
away our precious freedoms for the illusion of security.

We need only stop the failed policy of Victim Compliance, and we win.Actually, victim compliance "worked" pretty well up to yesterday. This was the first airplane suicide bombing attack ever. It is unrealistic to expect anyone to have implemented strategies to defent against an attack that had never happened.
It's a lot like Columbine. Previous to the attack on the school, doctrine (which had always worked reasonably well with attackers who wanted to get attention or negotiate) was to pull back, stabilize the situation and work from there as a way of minimizing fatalities. Such an approach was obviously totally counter-productive with attackers whose goal was to kill as many as possible. Doctrine on dealing with public building invasions has changed as a result.
Victim compliance on airliners died yesterday. The terrorists killed it.
(Actually, the term "victim compliance" is redundant. Those who die fighting back may be just as dead, but they are not victims.)

Simple
BUMP, without my usual graphical tidbits, so as to save bandwidth. (FR sure has been slow the last couple of days!)
William Norman Grigg hits the nail squarely on the head once again.

"Fears about the military's role in domestic affairs are unfounded," Cohen soothingly wrote. This is very nearly treasonous. To implement it is treason. Never must Americans live under Martial Law. It contradicts our very existence as free people.
There are three very critical elements needed for Martial Law, and utter, complete totalitarianism.
1. Citizens are banned from owning weapons.
2. Military is used as domestic law enforcement.
3. The civil authority becomes subservient to the military authority.
Once #1 and #2 are in place, #3 become possible, maybe even inevitable. If we aren't VERY careful #1 and #2 are very likely to occur. This must be fought!!! This must NEVER happen!!! .

At the risk of wasting some cyberspace, thank you. It's good to know there are other people out there who understand "the price of liberty"...

I disagree. If we had not started with victim compliance, we would have lost one or two at the beginning, and then no more. We made a mistake in starting to negotiate.
Even if you make a case that we saved a couple of hundred lives, the 10,000 we lost on the 11th make a complete mockery of it. By the way, I think we are pretty much in agreement.
