I just hope we don't give up our freedom while seeking security.

6. Simple logic cannot be applied to the behavior of these terrorist groups and states. I believe that the terrorist acts conducted could be the first wave of more significant acts that could take place -- even in the next few days. Perhaps for the next 3 days there will be quiet, and then another strike, perhaps more massive than those already delivered.

7. These people are not stupid. They'll use all weapons available to them. Do not underestimate the brutality of these people. The next time, even in the next several days, do not exclude the possibilty they will use chemical, nuclear and biological weapons against America.

Well... While I tend to agree with another poster who thinks Lunev is a bit loony, I keep getting the feeling there is something more to these attacks than meets the eye.

At the very least, I'd say they're part of an orchestrated campaign to weaken U.S. resolve to support Israel - as in, "how many American lives is it worth to you Americans, to keep supporting Israel?". Worst case, they may be a diversionary tactic, preparatory to initiating full-scale conflict in the Middle East.

And if either is the case, Lunev may very well be right...

A word of caution/ an alternative view from an Oliver North TV appearance yesterday a.m.:

Yesterday morning (9/18/01) on MSNBC (or was it Fox News, yes, I think it was Fox), Ollie North, former Deputy National Security Advoisor at the Reagan White House, said he was watching some "terorism experts" the previous evening on "another Network", --- (at which point, he sarcastically defined an "expert" as "Someone who once read a book on terrorism")--- as discussing "feelings" of children and worrying about suitcase nukes, bio-weapons, and chemical warfare: Olie said, in effect:

"Look, Osama bin Laden gave it his best shot, and used up precious and scarce resources 19 of his best men, who were willing to die for his cause (a very rare, very scarce resource) and he doesn't ahve any more big guns.

"Yes, (I am closely paraphrasing, here), there are "student cells" on "American campuses", in the United States, and there are dummy corporations where much lower level "terrorist" talent will form a "dummy corporation" e.g., to "buy some trucks" and "fill them up with fertilizer" & other explosive substances, a la the OKC bombing, but the "BEST Shot" was already delivered by bin Laden in the coordinated attack on the WTC, the Pentagon and the apparent attempt at the White House, per Col. North.

In summary, Ollie thinks liberals and touchy-feely types who don't know much about terrorism are panicking and causing others to do the same.

I am sure Ollie is still advocating EXTERMINATING Osama and other terrorists(!),

but he was just trying to put what HE perceived the risks as in perspective.

Remember:

These were Ollie's views,

--- second hand at that, ---

as I understood them, not mine, since I am NOT an expert on terrorism!
