Burton is seeking more than 12 sets of internal documents from Justice, including several related to probes of alleged Democratic fundraising abuses during the 1996 presidential campaign. The rest are connected to the FBI's controversial handling of mob informants in Boston, a Burton aide said.

Burton, who frequently clashed with Attorney General Janet Reno, plans to issue subpoenas for the documents today and has asked Ashcroft to testify at a committee hearing this month.

But Justice officials have resisted Burton's requests, and officials said yesterday that White House counsel Alberto R. Gonzales has recommended that Bush claim executive privilege if the memos are subpoenaed or if Ashcroft is questioned about them.

Burton's committee has for months been seeking Justice Department memos about prosecutors' decisions in cases involving Democratic fund raising,

a former Clinton White House official and a former federal drug enforcement agent.

Yes, and that's exactly what it needs to look like - an issue forced out by Congress - instead of a Republican President sending his Republican AG out after the former administration from the other party.

Do any of you think that Dan Burton can do a better job of gathering the evidence on Clinton and his corruption, than Ashcroft. Dan Burton had Clinton dead to rights and screwed it up, the last thing we need is a congressional hearing with Dan Burton and Waxman screwing up the case. Unless of coarse one of you have an inside connection and can inform all of us on why Ashcroft and Bush want to keep sensitive evidence out of the hands of these 2 F***ing idiots, Waxman and Burton

A.G. Ashcroft is the poster Boy of integrity and if he don't want to give Burton the files or memo's it's for a good reason, not a cover-up I do not agree with Gerge W. Bush on all of his policy's, But he is no Bill Clinton and I seriously doubt they are trying to cover up anything, they just dont want Dan Burton and his incompetant investigaters screwing up this case or letting the media help distort the facts

Bullshit!

It IS a cover up.

The Bushes and the clintons have each other by the balls and can bring each other down, Read Terry Reed's book "Compromised"and you will understand.

"we have stonewalling, exec priv., water held from farmers, firemen die so fish can live. gee, having bush makes all the difference, huh? "

Do you really want to tie the Klamath situation to this executive privilege issue? Lose one, lose both?

Are you trying to make it look like the Bush-bashers and the Klamath farmers are one and the same?

Maybe you should check with some of the farmers before you try to drag them into your little tiff.
