SECTION 2.

3. Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this Union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three-fifths of all other persons.

SECTION 8.

The congress shall have power

1. To lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts, and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defence and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts, and excises, shall be uniform throughout the United States:

Gee, didn't read anything there about a "consumption tax"...

Placing taxes on property (goods and services) sounds like a direct tax to me.

Excise Tax = Sales Tax = Consumption Tax. The FairTax is an excise tax that is uniform.

To: A response from the office of the POTUS
Thank you for emailing President Bush. Your ideas and comments are very important to him.

Unfortunately, because of the large volume of email received, the President cannot personally respond to each message. However, the White House staff considers and reports citizen ideas and concerns.

Again, thank you for your email. Your interest in the work of President Bush and his administration is appreciated.

Sincerely,
The White House Office of E-Correspondence

Thanks for the bump, CHIEF.
Here's one for you along the lines of taxation:

AIDS EPIDEMIC SWEEPS SOUTH TEXAS !!

No, this isn't Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, this is:

ACCELERATED INDIGENT DESIGNATION STATUS !!

Recently in a grocery store in McAllen on a Thursday afternoon, I did a personal survey of people going through the check-out line of a large H.E.B. store.
In half an hour on monitoring, fourteen people checked out of the line I was watching.
ONE paid for their groceries with a check!
The rest paid a very small portion of their bill with cash; the remainder they paid for with "government" coupons.
When a lady whose bill totaled $128. paid the checker with a twenty and got back over six dollars in change, I asked the checker to explain what was going on.
She said, "Well, they have government assistance called Lone Star coupons."
Well, I don't have to tell you that didn't make me feel a whole lot better to know that the great state of Texas had lent it's name to the give-away.
I asked her if half the people paid this way.
She said, "Oh, no, much more than half."
I said, "Maybe three out of four?"
She said, "More like nine out of ten."
That seemed to equate with what I had just seen over the last half an hour.
I said to her, "Does this bother you?"
She said, "Well, no, it's government assistance!"

You see, to her and hundreds of thousands of people like her, the federal government has this huge money tree from which the "federal money gatherer" picks the money every morning and distributes it to the needy.

Thanks for the links. AFFT supplies something similar: here. They even give sample letters you can send. When sent through AFFT, every e-mail will have a Blind Carbon Copy [BCC] back to Americans for Fair Taxation, so they can track participation levels.

..."Although the President recently signed into law the largest tax relief package in a generation, much work remains to be done to strip away the accumulated clutter in the tax code.

The Administration is in the early stages of a general discussion about tax reform"...

"Accumulated CLUTTER"! If this is the mentality of those who, according to the next statement are 'in the early stages of a general discussion about tax reform', you might as well forget it!

This is the administration, after all, whose leader says he doesn't believe government should take more than 33% of what you earn.

Wasn't it back in '96 or '98 when the GOP made some 'taxpayer bill of rights' changes to the tax code? I believe their 'fluff' added an additional 800 pages to the code.....and anyone believes these consciousless politicians are going to reform anything!

Recent reports indicate that Bush has much more in mind for the fiscal future of America than a few tax rate cuts.

Did the total domination of Alan Keyes in the debates regarding "slave taxes" vs "sales taxes" have a determining factor on the Bush tax agenda? I don't know.

Perhaps Bush felt that in order to implement major tax reform, he couldn't show his hand and win the election. Is he as Sly as a Fox? Could be.

In his speech to Congress he said, "The growing surplus exists because taxes are too high and government is charging more than it needs. The people of America have been overcharged and on their behalf, I am here to ask for a refund."

Whoa Nellie! I don't know about you, but I gave Dubya a "Standing O" on that one. Something you'll never hear from the "Class-Warfare Dem-R-Crooks"! Notice all the "tax and waste" liberals slink down in their seats?

Eventhough Hastert chose Thomas over Crane [a known NRST advocate] to head the Ways and Means, Bush chose Paul O'Neill [a known NRST advocate] to head the Treasury Department.

Here are a few articles that give us a "hint" what the Bush tax agenda will be.

How to dismantle the IRS - The FairTax

Lindsey Says Bush Will Seek Tax Reform After Tax Cuts

This is the FIRST we've heard of the Bush tax goal.

I'm not gonna get into it but if an excise tax is a sales tax then apples are oranges. The federal power was never meant to be extended directly to state citizens. Excises cannot be extracted directly from the private market but must be collected by federal agents. Unless of course you approve of having private citizens and businesses collect taxes for the feds. Yeah sure, I expect you have grand plan to pay them for their "labor".

Excise:

Definition
1 a tax levied on the manufacture, sale, or consumption of a commodity.
compare income tax property tax.
2 any of various taxes on privileges often assessed in the form of a license or other fee see also Article I of the Constitution in the back matter.
compare direct tax
Pronounciation: 'ek-"sIz, -"sIs

It's obvious your argument won't hold water, unless you can prove that New Goods and Services could not possibly be considered "commodities".

You have the floor...

That's the attitude buffyt. We can get all emotional about Condidit and Klamath, which won't do squat for the future financial well-being of our offspring.

I can't think of a more important subject than to strive to abolish the abusive, intrusive, incomprehensible income tax and Gestapo IRS!
