Is that even constitutional? I thought bills/laws couldn’t target an individual for good or bad.

Maybe she could stay....if it’s done lawfully.

Am I missing something? Has DeGette been working with Republicans, at least on occasion, so that Republicans would be inclined to do a favor?

Virtue signaling. No chance it’ll pass.

Currently, Vizguerra is fighting her deportation in Col U.S. District Court.
<><>On the slim chance the private bill were to pass the House,
<><>it would then head to the Senate, as private bills follow the same procedures as other bills.
<><>There, it’s unlikely to pass as the Republicans currently hold majority control.

And Trump holds veto power in any event

Private Claims and Private Legislation have been around since before the Constitution. Tens of thousands of them. In 1946, such private bills were assigned to the Judiciary Committees. Now handled mostly as ‘favors’ by the Executive Branch to individual Representatives or Senators.

“At the time of her arrest, federal immigration officials said Vizguerra had violated federal law after a second stay of deportation granted to her expired in February 2024.”

Well, bye.

So a woman who has been fighting deportation for 15 years is finally being deported—and an American Congresswoman is filing a private bill to stop it? This is a ready-made campaign ad for Republicans. Fifteen years to kick her out! Has Rep. DeGette gone to this much trouble for any American?

Meanwhile back in Jeannete’s native Mexico foreigners, legal residents or not, are forbidden to partake in any political action, let alone become ‘prominent activists’.

You are thinking of the Bill of Attainder clause, which only pertains to conviction by bill without trial
